Since about 5 hours the ARP-resend well seems to be dry. I’ve just picked up ARP1_0015409_140_5, so there are still a few out there!BTW, I had my first Invalid ARP1 result recently. The two machines that validated were running Windows 11, whereas my machine is still on Windows 10 - though that might just have been a coincidence. Cheers, Mark I presume it got marked Invalid rather than Error -- the latter would've indicated a missing or invalid result file (and I've had a couple of those [for the first time!] during this debacle). I suspect it was just a case of "stuff happens" but if you have any more validation issues, a bit of system diagnosis might be in order -- I have recently been there and done that :-( I had some [initial] issues with my new Ryzen 7900 (built by putting a new motherboard bundle in my old 3700X system case!); BOINC would stall, some system components reported interrupt issues and occasionally the whole machine would lock up. During that interval I had a few MCM1 SIGSEGVs and genuine failures to validate... That was the first time I'd ever seen validation errors for any project (here or elsewhere) that uses homogeneous redundancy(!) so I was not happy, and suspected a [minor?] memory problem. I ran memtest86x and the first sets of cycles were a disaster; however, after a reboot to get at a different version of memtest there were hardly any errors at all but I noticed that the RAM speed was reporting differently depending on which test version I ran. Long story short -- it appeared that the board had been set up to drive some 5600-speed memory flat out, and when I persuaded the BIOS to see it as 4800 MT/s the problems went away completely (and seem to have stayed away [touch wood!]). Cheers - Al. P.S. Have you looked at Adri's latest puzzle? I've not seen you posting in the puzzle thread recently... |

Hi Al,
Yes, it was marked as a genuine Invalid. I've also had a couple of Validate Errors on Rosetta, so I think I might need to do a bit of diagnosis as you suggest. (I did have a BSOD recently which occurred when I opened another application while BOINC was running, so perhaps that caused the errors.) Interesting to hear about your Ryzen 7900. I've been thinking about getting one and putting it in an ASRock DeskMini X600. The 7900 seems to be an excellent choice for power efficiency, but is often priced at more than the 7900X which is a bit annoying. I don't think the 7900X would work in an X600. Cheers, Mark PS Yes, I've looked at Adri's puzzle but am absolutely baffled by it. I'm waiting for your hint! |

I managed to nab one ARP resend in 3 days. I felt very lucky.
Now would be the perfect time to cycle the extreme WUs out. It wouldn't be much load, and they could use the time to catch up. I'm unsure of the timeline to bring ARP back to full production, but every hour of extremes could shorten the overall project timeline. Don't waste this time. @tfmagnetism - The image I used in the first post broke at the end of October. I just reached out the original author of the script (headcrash) to see if they are willing to fix it. If not, I'll see what I can do. It is a very useful image for status and I miss it. There is a txt file version that is linked to in the useful links, and I have a browser tab to that file that I check from time to time. Personally. I'm just a retired tech person, as you can probably guess from my handle. |

Rather than further cluttering up this thread, might I suggest that you send me a PM on TN-Grid, MilkyWay or Einstein if you would like to talk about MiniPCs, 7900s and so on...Hint - don't put a 7900 in that MiniPC :-) Cheers - Al. P.S. Apologies to Unixchick for topic drift -- if WCG had personal messaging this wouldn't be a problem (though I understand why it doesn't provide that facility!) The status image is back in the first post, so you can see which projects are or are not sending WUs.

Happy Thanksgiving and Safe Travels to those in America.
When you go on vacation do you shut Boinc off or leave it on? Is less work being done during the holidays or more? It is probably not an important question this year as WCG will be shut down for most of December. Now is the time to find that backup project if you like the heat from the computers during this time. |

Not in the US anymore, but leave my PCs on regardless of workday or holiday. It's a 24/7 thing for me. Where I live currently, things are announced so last minute. That in mind, I am really grateful you announced the downtime multiple weeks ahead of time! Thank you kindly and I wish you the best.

ARPs have worked their way through downloading issues and multiple resends, and now seem to be done. Will they start sending small batches of Extremes through this week? I'd like them to, but who knows.
Someone also brought up the possibility that the shutdown of the data center might start on the 7th and not the 9th. Hopefully we will get an official answer on that question. |
