I'm so glad the students are getting hands on experience building machines. I had my own children build their own machines, which they have continued to do. Our family is very computer oriented, but I know not all kids will get this experience at home.
I run WCG on my personal machine, as I just want to be a part of project. I'm not building a machine specifically for WCG. I just need a machine for pretty mundane everyday tasks. I'm currently running an old 2014 mac mini. I'm just going to get a new mac mini. I love hearing about other people's builds. The telling of build stories (trials and tribulations, learning and teaching) is a vital part of the community. It isn't just about the machine doing the "work" but the stories of the citizen scientists who devote their own time and resources to set the machine up to do the work. |

The graphic in my first post has stopped updating for me. it is stuck on Oct 31, but the txt file (in the links at the bottom of that post) is updating. Is it just me?
Also... I'm not getting any ARPs now... is there flow? |

Thanks Al. I appreciate the update. Cheers I would like to second this & ask Al if we can expect another update in early December? (I posted this in November 2024) |

Thanks Al. I appreciate the update. Cheers I would like to second this & ask Al if we can expect another update in early December? (I posted this in November 2024) That was a deliberate choice because I was waiting to see what would happen when ARP1 came back (though I suspected I/we knew what would happen, and it did) Given the amount of other traffic on the subject of system performance (or lack thereof), I don't think I could add much, so I suspect there won't be a report in that style at the end of this month either, as the purpose of my posts was to point out issues that didn't seem to be getting much coverage either because they went away soon after they arose or because they didn't have too much of an adverse affect on general productivity (and I'd really struggle to write something about this month's debacle that would seem objective, unbiased, even-tempered [et cetera]...). That said, here's a little of what might have appeared: The "Waiting to be sent" issue for MCM1 retries was present on at least 20 of 31 days in October; a "planned data centre outage" almost certainly triggered that sequence. And, of course, we've all seen the major consequences of an over-exuberant ARP1 relaunch and there's really not a lot anyone can say about that from a position of knowledge (despite that interesting post by savas!) -- we still don't know how they configure feeders, validators and so forth :-(... One less obvious(?) consequence is a backlog of "Waiting to be sent" retries for ARP1 now, whereas the difficulties in acquiring MCM1 work seem to give retries a better chance of getting out! So, a report of sorts after all :-) Cheers - Al. |

Hello, what is the status of the African Rainfall Project, it was supposed to be up and running on the 3rd of Jan 2025 after they moved it to new servers. It is not the 10 of Jan 2025 and I have not received any downloads or information on the current status of the Project.
Anyone out their that can answer the question on when we will again be getting data to process? Mark Moss |

PappaSmurf, the most recent update here: https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/wcg.html
----------------------------------------9 January BOINC database is up and in a good state. We are waiting on two more servers to regain access to the network, at which point we will be restarting the scheduler, transitioner, assimilators and validators. All deadlines for outstanding MCM1 work units have been extended to just after 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 15th, 2025. Web site is up; stats will be updated soon. Forums are up.
