Sure hope we get credit for WUs that are not going to be returned until after the deadline.
----------------------------------------I'll be pissed if my 1000+ finished WUs waiting to be reported are marked too late or aborted and don't receive credit because Krembil has a "Data Center" (I use that term extremely loosely!) that is incompetent and can't get their ish together. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by bluestang at Dec 4, 2023 1:32:05 AM] |

RE: 2.8... That's just "Store at least 2.8-days" with 0-extra.
----------------------------------------I have 100's of WU's currently awaiting to upload (some will be late by tomorrow morning but hopeful they'll fix the issue and the work won't be lost). However, I've not runout of work on any of the 16 machines here thus far. These are all just I-3's and I-7's -- no monster threaded workhorses like some Volunteers have. I *do* keep Denis and Asteroids as backup projects if things go longer than expected... [Edit 1 times, last edit by Spiderman at Dec 4, 2023 12:06:08 AM] |

It's that time of the year again. It's _cold_ outside and I sit at my PC anyway so let's crunch some numbers to heat up the place:
> Dez 04 11:31:35 morpheus boinc[20347]: 04-Dec-2023 11:31:35 [World Community Grid] Requesting new tasks for CPU > Dez 04 11:31:37 morpheus boinc[20347]: 04-Dec-2023 11:31:37 [World Community Grid] Scheduler request failed: HTTP service unavailable Or not. AGAIN? FFS, how long has this migration been going? Feels like nothing changed compared to last year. * DNS works: dig +short scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org > 199.241.167.118 * HTTP works: curl https://scheduler.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi * The WCG server? Not so much: ``` <html><body><h1>503 Service Unavailable</h1> No server is available to handle this request. </body></html> ``` Guess I have to look for another project. My patience run dry like the task list. |

I too hoped for a quick migration and a new project to be announced so we can crunch more. Unfortunately that hasn't happened but I have been splitting my time with spaced based projects (Milky-way and Einstein) and also a few numbers ones (NumberFields and Ramanujan)
It's disappointing what WCG has become and it's more than a hiccup. As others have said organise backup projects, switch between BOINC and Folding@home or better yet set challenges with your team on random projects. BOINC hasn't gotten the traction that Folding@home has gotten and without proper funding, advertising and involvement from the scientific community we will continue to see issues like this one and NumberFields I will continue to hope that WCG gets itself sort |

@the_ancient_one -- Please post the first 30-lines of your Event Log so folks can read.
-- 1) Make sure your BOINC Client is in Advanced Mode -- click on <View><Advanced View>. Then on the Project tab, ensure WCG isn't Suspended. 2) You might try making a change in your preferences (<Options><Computing Preferences> -- as a test change the parameter: "Use at most 100% of the CPUs and at most 90% of the CPU time" from 90% CPU time to 85% CPU time and <Save>. Then on the Project tab, click <Update> to force communication. That will flip your system from using a Web Preference to a Local Preference. 3) If you were already on a Local Preference, click on the <Use web prefs> button under Computing Preferences, and click <Update> on the Project tab. That might free-up whatever change made on Client was done in error (which you can go back & fix). -- I've brought 14-15 systems online since WCG moved and they've all worked (by the way, GPU-work is only receiving OpenPandemics -- make sure you haven't turned that Project off at the website, all other Projects are CPU-work), so it has to be something in your BOINC Client setup or Web Preferences. Good luck! |
