Thanks for the updated information. Your detailed information, Al, is probably very helpful to the tech team. I'm always a bit cautious about reporting things like this because I have no idea what diagnostic tools are available to the WCG folks and I may simply be telling them something they already know (which can be quite irritating!)...What I do find worrying about the ongoing silence about this issue is that it suggests they've hit something that appears inexplicable[*1] and/or something that will require drastic action (such as a day or more of down-time to clear blockages) -- as an ex-systems/databases guy, I just wish I could do something more to help. Cheers - Al. P.S. Assimilation still seems to be dead in the water... *1 if it's a known hardware or data centre issue I'd have expected them to have acknowledged that already, so presumably that's not the case... I started to to see a bit of valids being purged and I went from about 8000 to about 7500, but now am over 9000 with the oldest being around 03:19:49 UTC on Oct.24, just slightly later than several others. There is a definite blockage someplace.

The few tools we have to see system status says that MCM is flowing well. I'm getting some MCM, but not a steady flow. I get multiple "tasks committed to other platforms". I'm on a mac...so I should match with all the linux systems, as well as other macs. I've seen posts of those on windows having similar issues. I have no idea what is going on with the system. I had stopped doing any WUs for a while as I'm concerned that WCG will go boom due to the ever growing database.
I hope that we get another weekend update that addresses the issues. |

As many of you have noticed, we are having an issue with purging MCM1 workunits and recently we applied a fix that we believed would also address the symptom, dead MCM1 assimilators that would quit again once restarted. We are investigating why the MCM1 assimilator services are failing again now, and will update everyone when we are able to bring the MCM1 assimilators back up in a useful state.
Regarding the results backlog, we should be able to cope with it once we can get the MCM1 assimilators back up and running. |

The tools we have to peek on the project say that MCM is going out and being returned at a good rate, but I'm only seeing an occasional WU. I see other people are posting that they are dry too. I usually can get a good supply even when there are less WUs, so I don't know what the issue is.

The amount of MCM WUs going out has dropped. I'm really surprised at how well the system is running without purging. I expected the db to go boom by now. I'm guessing about 3 weeks of MCM WUs haven't been purged.
Canada already had their Thanksgiving, so hopefully they can get this fixed before the December holidays. ARP is suppose to come back before the end of the year, and I want the system to be in the best shape possible since ARP has always strained the system. |
