For Windows, should I just enter this as a command prompt?? It might be a good idea right now not to do this at all, as it looks that this issue is currently fixed, and you would possibly just make matters worse... Ralf |

The "boinccmd network_available" command does not communicate with the site.
----------------------------------------It only communicates with boinc_client telling it that if it needs to download something it can do it right away. boinc_client is the software that manages the WUs and communicates with the site. Everything goes through it and if there is no download in progress, the "boinccmd network_available" command is simply useless.
My GPU compute WUs as fast as I'm crushing bubble wrap.

Someone must go in the Jurisica Lab and slap the server once in a while ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by PowerFactor at Oct 21, 2022 2:54:52 AM] |

use the really dirty way by creating a crontask with "/usr/bin/boinccmd --network_available" every 10sec (no need to run it as root) ----------- For Windows users the command is: "C:\Program Files\boinc\boinccmd" --network_available The quotes are required because of the space between Program and Files. This will force your boinc_client to restart downloads without pending time. For a non programmer like me, can you explain how to make a Windows command prompt repeat every X seconds? Thanks ![]() ![]() |

For a non programmer like me, can you explain how to make a Windows command prompt repeat every X seconds? Just don't. You are likely just making it worse for everyone, for very little personal gain. The download errors is an issue that Krembil needs to fix for good, this is going on for 5 months now. Everything else is just snake oil...Thanks ![]() Ralf |

Based on a quick google:
----------------------------------------Make sure you logged on as an administrator or you have the same access as an administrator. Start->Control Panel->System and Security->Administrative Tools->Task Scheduler Action->Create Basic Task->Type a name and Click Next Follow through the wizard. Suggest every 10 to 15 minutes is enough to get any stuck tasks moving. Paul.

What the heck do you think is happening when you trigger the local retry process on your local machine every few seconds? You are flooding the remote server with hundreds if not thousands ADDITIONAL requests, which the system can't process in the first place! Sorry, but that can't be THAT HARD to understand... Ralf |

By the Boinc agents own function, the system keeps trying to download the work units until the download is complete. The only difference in letting the broken system keep trying on its own, is time. Time that should be used in computing and completing work units to further the research as it is designed to do.
----------------------------------------I am more interested in completing the research and furthering the science, than I am in babysitting a broken server system (or whatever the problem is). If Krembil cannot fix this, then the research will stop. I do realize that it has already suffered a great loss. It has been since February 2021 that this has been a problem that affects the research. Cyclops, from Krembil, has, in another forum post, suggested that we use the 'Retry Now' button in Boinc to attempt to complete the download. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...ead,44311_offset,0#676600 If there is anything I can do to help the research continue, then I will. Even if it means forcing a broken system to download a usually tiny amount of data to load a work unit to my machine, in order to have work units running. The alternative is to throw my hands in the air and do nothing and give up. Maybe that is what Krumbil has done. This has gone on far too long. The car is spitting and sputtering. Shall we keep driving until we are dead in the highway. or use what utilities we can find, in order to get some gas in the car? ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Nortnarg at Nov 9, 2022 6:07:20 PM] |
