Re: Transition Talk

Any chance that you did "play" with any of the BOINCclient settings or anything else WCG/BOINC related while you "gave up"?

Ralf

Nope. I just started 4 OP CPU tasks an hour ago. They show up on the "Results" page. When they finish I'll check to see if they show up in the stats at the WCG site.

Re: Transition Talk

Units only stay on the results page for a few days before aging off.

And they are only counted in the stats if they are validated...

After the next stats run, which is running twice a day. I don't know exactly what time that is right now, I know it is different from the time it was before the move (which used to be 4/5am and 4/5pm here in California)...

Once the Results are validated (positive or negative), I think it is 48h until they are purged in the Results page.

Re: Transition Talk

My "Contributions" page has updated. Now if they could just fix the task download issue I would consider running WCG again. WCG went from being one of the best run BOINC projects to being one of the worst.

Yup, I wholeheartedly agree with that.

I used to originally run SETI@Home, in the days before BOINC, at some point got into Rosetta@Home because it made more sense to me to contribute to medical science than chase alien signals, but at that time Baker Labs at WU had nothing but continuous problems. Looking for alternatives, I became aware of WCG and switched 11.5 years ago, And it was a difference like day and night. Barely any issues at all, and if there were, the staff was incredibly responsive and took care of issues VERY quickly.. The number of issues increased somewhat when they (at IBM) moved from "real iron" servers to a cloud based setup. 3 or 4 days downtime and some more frequent issues, but still very responsive AND COMMUNICATIVE techs that kept things rolling. Ever since the announcement of the move to Krembil, things have just gone downhill. And it feels like clawing the way back up the hill crawling with one arm ever since Krembil thought to reactivate the project. sad

I am at the point where I am close to giving up on WCG due to the numerous false-starts, generally poor communication, and instability/unpredictability since Krembil took over. I don't have much if any faith that Krembil will be able to provide a viable and stable platform over time. Fortunately, there are other medical science-related projects I plan on contributing my computer resources to (e.g., Folding@home, Rosetta, TN-Grid).

Re: Transition Talk

For a few days, the download server has given mostly tasks with low total sizes of input files, such as OPN1. This allowed more work to be done. Now, the tasks with higher total sizes of input files are available again. Should the server be adjusted to give mostly tasks with low total sizes of input files when a significant fraction of theses downloads are failing, and more tasks with higher total sizes of input files at times when most of the downloads complete on the first try?

Re: Transition Talk

so is it working now ? since it was supposed to be quick, I had the time to repurpose 2 pcs for something else. My main pc will need few re-installations to restart crunching. I just received 1 task on my laptop., maybe this task will decide if im staying or not. lol
