Re: Transition Talk

I am going to make the suggestion that Krembil bring back the "Community Advisor" designation for the forums. It would be nice to have some very knowledgeable informed persons to answer questions and take some of the burden off of the staff.
Cheers

That would be very good. Maybe it's already being worked on and we'll know more more once the new website launches.

Re: Transition Talk

I hope we get a week or two advanced warning so we can raise the number of days of work in our settings. I don't check these two systems every day.

Had not thought of that. Good idea.

I wonder how much would do it.

Re: Transition Talk

Knreed posted somewhere on this or the other thread that they expected 2 days of downtime while transferring to Krembil. I'm sure they'll give us a heads up.

Re: Transition Talk

Was going to upgrade a system for more cores but until I do my own research on the new setup without IBM, will hold off and remove one cruncher and crunch with one for now just to keep active for now. Hopefully its seamless and crunching goes on as normal. But until I see things are going well, and no other issues with the new setup, I'll hold back a bit.

Re: Transition Talk

I'm US citizen I will not support Canadian private company's research. Also they're profit company and results will not open to all world. Several years ago IBM sold laptops to China(Lenevo) this is first shock and that one is my second shock about IBM./

I'm so sorry I will continue with Folding@home and Rosetta@home.

It has already been stated that KRI are not for profit and that the research results will remain open.

KRI are part of the United Hospitals of Toronto which is a charity mainly funded by the state healthcare system so not a profit company at all.

Krembil is not a private company, it's a not-for-profit research organization.
Krembil runs Mapping Cancer Markers and ran the Help Conquer Cancer project - they are committed to having all World Community Grid results open to the world as it always has been.

Re: Transition Talk

Being a WGC lightweight, sorry for my lack of knowledge of WCG on the overarching role of IBM or the cloud based task distribution but will the research project options with Krembil be the same as IBM? Or will they be Krembil only? I only have a couple of (overengineered) decent gaming spec PCs I donate the computing power to 24/7 but would like to think the transition will be a logo change and nothing else.

Or is it more?
