If the vast security and computer resources of IBM, no longer will be available to WCG, then I'm not so sure that I will participate in the WCG project any longer.
----------------------------------------So, how can the safety, security, and competence of IBM, be held at the same high standard when WCG moves to Krembil Research Institute? [Edit 3 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Sep 13, 2021 1:35:01 PM] |

Does this mean that IBM computers will no longer participate in the World Community Grid? Does it mean that IBM will no longer donate financial resources to the Grid? IBM computers can still participate in World Community Grid. IBM is donating time and resources to the transition process. Once that is completed, the financing will come from other sources, some of which are mentioned in the article. |

So, how can the safety, security, and competence of IBM, be held at the same high standard when moved to Krembil Research Institute? The article addresses these points. Krembil Research Institute is part of a sizable hospital research network, which adheres the highest security measures due to stringent data and patient confidentiality laws and practices. Additionally, they are a scientific institution with considerable technical resources, and they are being cross-trained in handling World Community Grid as part of the transition. |

I have a question regarding past projects. Will there be someone in the new team in charge of keeping with past projects publications as well as contacting them every now and then to check on their WCG-related research and posting updates?

Will our points transition this time? When World Community Grid (or whatever it had been called before) moved to IBM, I lost several years-worth of points. Now, with over 128 years, I really don't want to be "bombed back to zero") again. It was a bit demoralizing when I lost a few years-worth of points, but it would be a pretty big blow to my enthusiasm to have to start from zero again.
(And again, security of the platform and our local clients and their work units is a big concern, so please make sure that remains a very high priority.) Thanks. |

Yes! There will be continued communication with researchers whose work has been completed on World Community Grid with updates on their publications and related research. |

Will existing and especially new results of the research projects remain in the public domain free of charge?

IBM computers can still participate in World Community Grid. Can yes, but will they? As employee computers are upgraded, will this transition to an opt-in system where IBM employees would have to have heard about the project from somebody who was around when it was active? IBM made $18.75 billion in the last quarter alone, and have far more resources, employees, and technical knowledge than the Krembil Research Institute. Why is IBM walking away from its commitment? |
