A Windows XP computer connected to internet in 2020? At least put Linux on it! Just an FYI 20% of the worlds computers still use XP. It's only a cruncher so there is no need to change. It also has some legacy programs that I occasionally use.
In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

Happened to get 3 OPN1 beta WUs this week. All three finished fine. Two were quick ones (2-3 minutes), and one ran for about 4.5 hours before finishing.
I stopped and started the longer running WU several times and restarted my computer once while it was running w/o any issues to that WU either. My computer is a i-7 quad HP laptop running Win 10. Hopefully the rest of the beta runs have been doing ok and soon we get a bunch of production OPN1 WUs to crunch. I'm getting tired being stuck at home having to deal with all these strains of coronavirus trying to stuff me out and want to crunch some options to stuff out those bad boy viruses out there. |

Exe to change is wcgrid_beta28_autodock_7.09_windows_intelx86 Fields I changed in Optional(PE) Header from 6 to 5 were 13 MajorOperatingSystemVersion and 17 MajorSubsystemVersion. Just checked the file I believe is for graphics, wcgrid_beta28_gfx_7.09_windows_intelx86, and that has 5 as supplied. Paul. Found the problem. Line 13 was 5 but line 17 was still 6. I need to PFA better. Sux getting old and forgetful. Thanks

Hi there. I have subscribe to beta. Select only First Aids Phase 2. I mostly do jobs for Rosetta right now.
How do you do to get beta testing jobs ? My two computers is on 24/24, and I haven't get anything yet. I have a Linux and on Mac OSX Catalina. |

Put a check mark in the profiles you want to have access to Beta units. Click the "Save" button. Be aware that Beta units can few and far between. Some projects will have many and some only a few, so even if you have opted in, it may be a while before you get any. Cheers

Bad actors rent these out for all sorts of malicious activity like DDOS attacks, etc. Long story short, it is not a good idea to use obsolete operating systems... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet |

While it is true there may be unpatched vulnerabilities in the older operating systems, why would anyone who is interested in building a botnet be interested in systems with minimal cpu power. If they are sophisticated enough to build a botnet of any size, with the goal of harnessing as much cpu power as possible, I would think they would use their skills to only target higher end machines. They could get more power with fewer machines and with fewer machines there is less chance of being exposed. Just my opinion. Cheers

If they are sophisticated enough to build a botnet of any size, with the goal of harnessing as much cpu power as possible ... CPU power is not the goal of botnets. The goal is to get as many different IP addresses as possible, which makes it very difficult to counter DDOS attacks. CPU power is irrelevant for DDOS attacks. |
