Re: climate change projects

Indeed~ The SNURK signatures will really be affected. Will be curious to see how many sigs change.

If you would take a look on the summary provided by Snurk , you will notice that people being potentially "negatively" impacted ("degraded") by the launch of the new project could be easily identified: there is a "!" beside the average year number.
Cheers,
Yves

Re: climate change projects

SNURK's Years per Project is a ludicrous figure of merit. Extreme bias to those that started at WCG early and massive penalty for those that started recently. It serves to discourage newcomers instead of welcoming them.

Years per Project has nothing to do with when you started. It's just total runtime divided by 29. not talking

Thanks for your efforts with the sigs, SNURK. Some of us really do appreciate your work.

Can't wait to get some new project work!

Re: climate change projects

Is it just me who finds something rather hypocritical in someone being so strongly dismissive of Snurk's hard work whilst at the same time having one of his sigs on display in that same post... confused

Keep up the good work SNURK applause

That's true, although I see 3 out of the 6 'active research' projects comming to an end within the upcomming 2 to 5 months. So new projects are much needed (or current ones need to be stuffed with extra tasks). I'm pretty positive some hard work is being done looking at the number of bèta tasks my machines have crunched, although I'm a bit concerned about the lack of communication from within WCG.

The end time estimates are often wrong, since its based on current work. Unless there's a forum post somewhere stating something is wrapping up, I usually assume more work will be added. (For example, right now on the research page I only see 2 projects with end dates)

A lot of the recent beta's have been for new data sets for existing projects, I don't know if I've seen one yet for the new Climate projects. The WCG team is usually very tight lipped about new projects, they don't want to set any expectations on a timeline since there is a lot of uncertainty in these kinds of large scale projects. They've said in the past that they basically prefer to give no date estimates rather than give one and not be able to stick to it.

Re: climate change projects

We are all working on an all volunteer basis. Meaning what SNURK has done was done for free. We are all free to use or free to not use.

And we are all free to do something better if we want to.
