Re: FightAIDS@Home Phase 2 Beta Test Dec 26, 2018 [ Issues Thread ]

All 3 WUs received by my XP-x64 machine got these "CreateProcess() failed - (unknown error)" exits today.
It runs production FAHB work under XP-x64 quite happily.
Other info:
<core_client_version>7.6.22</core_client_version>
WU names:
FAH2_ 002228_ zinc00671629_ 000003_ 000080_ 002_ 0
FAH2_ 002227_ zinc00671192_ 000003_ 000081_ 002_ 0
FAH2_ 002228_ zinc00671629_ 000003_ 000050_ 002_ 0

Machine name on LAN: charon
O/S details from WU status lines:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.02.3790.00)

CPU: i7-3770K, 8GB RAM

Have a nice bug report as a New Year's present :(
[Update]: Following Apis Tintinnambulator's post below, I downloaded & used PEinfo to edit the program file header and changed the OS and subsystem versions from 6 to 5.
Fixed, confirmed when WUs ran and validated. [/update]

PS: Some thoughts re your stated 1GB RAM requirement for these WUs
My devices all have 8GB of RAM. One uses DDR4, the rest DDR3.
One temporary device runs 4 threads, one runs 12, the rest 8.
Since the DDR3 ones are near EOL, I'd be reluctant to buy more RAM for them.
Running 8x or 12x 1GB tasks in 8GB machines doesn't run very efficiently.
I'm sure that many other members will face similar problems.
Will there be a way to limit the number of <ahem> concurrent 1GB WUs that our devices attempt to run?
Example: Deploy them as a "separate" project, like "FAAH Phase III", which would allow limiting them via the app_config.xml max_concurrent mechanism ( https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration )

(The beta WUs I've seen so far use "only" about 300MB on Windows, 500MB on Linux, but that does not mean that much bigger production ones won't be coming.)

Re: FightAIDS@Home Phase 2 Beta Test Dec 26, 2018 [ Issues Thread ]

Linux is taking significantly longer to process work.

I have two 1950x chips, one Windows, one Linux.
The Linux one has done one work unit, taking 10.78 hours.

The Windows one has done five work units, with runtimes tightly clustered around 4.1 hours.

If shared resources are an issue: The Linux one was left alone to (otherwise) do VINA tasks, Windows may have been gaming alongside non-VINA tasks.

Hope that helps.

Does your windows xp machines work properly with the version for FAHB in production? Or do you get this error with those work units as well?

Thanks,
-Uplinger

I can't speak for anyone else, but my WinXP 32 bit runs the production units just fine. I have 2 XP machines running them at the moment. As far as the Beta units go I've had 8 WinXP 32bit units all fail, 3 Windows 7 units, all validated and 1 Windows 10 unit, also validated.

See my posts above. I'm sure the techs will fix it if you don't fancy editing the exe yourself.

@Apis, what do you mean by "fancy editing the exe"? Are you, like, using a hex editor or reverse engineering something? Seems risky.

hchc, Search these fora for "PEInfo". I just did as someone else suggested one previous time that we encountered this. The techs can fix it, but maybe they're waiting for one of us Guinea Pigs to try it first blushing

Has anyone gotten any Apple WUs? Just set my IMac to run Beta Test but think I might be too late.
