Is there anything special we should be trying to do with these for testing, especially regarding that 1GB of memory requirement, since that could easily fill up some older systems if 3 or 4 are running at once with Windows and normal apications

There is nothing special needed. BOINC should be able to handle/control the memory requirements as those get passed on a workunit basis. Checkpointing should still be working and should checkpoint every 15-30 minutes from my tests.

So far so good, managed to snag 4 of those, each using ~270MB of RAM.

These will not finish in 36 hours on any of my machines. Looking in the slot directory, it seems to be consistently doing one step every 4.2 seconds. With 50000 steps, that would be ~53.8 hours. BOINC is estimating a little over 54 hours.
----------------------------------------BTW, thunderstorms rolled through in the middle of the night so had a chance to test checkpoint/restart. WU successfully restarted from last checkpoint. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Doneske at Dec 27, 2018 11:11:24 AM] |

All 4 of my units are marked Invalid, is this expected while waiting for replication or did something went terribly wrong?

These should only be running for 10k steps not 50k.. I'm looking into what you're seeing.

You are correct, the first 400 sent out were 50k steps. I had changed only one of the variables when loading them. I will increase their deadlines for those to be 5 days on the system. This will prevent them from being sent out for additional copies.
----------------------------------------Also, I'm changing them so going forward, the children of them are set to 10k steps. I am sorry about this, and thanks for bringing it to my attention. Thanks, -Uplinger Edit: All deadlines for workunits in progress right now have an additional 4 days to complete. Your client will still report them as potentially being too late, this is because the report deadline is not updated to the client. [Edit 1 times, last edit by uplinger at Dec 27, 2018 4:41:10 PM] |

Greetings again,
I started looking at the Invalids. It appears that with 1 spot where the nsteps was updated to 10k is causing the issues with the validator. So, due to this and the other problem, I'm going to mark these work units as all in error. I will not be rerunning the work from batch 002221 in BETA. If you wish to cancel them, it is fine to do so. Thanks, -Uplinger |
