We almost did it years ago in UK but then people didn't bother getting their kids vaccinated because it was almost gone and immigrants came in with it. Maybe in UK. It is my understanding that in USA the problem was that penicillin worked quite well to treat it, bit it was a long process, and some (far too many) discontinued taking it when they felt better. This resulted to only the bacteria resistant to penicillin surviveing. So now TB is resistant to that. They found other antibiotics that ended up similarly abused, so now there are few (if any) antibiotics left. ![]() |

The drug Isoniazid has been the treatment of choice for many years. I believe it needs to be taken for a period of about 6 months. I also believe that some of the newer strains of TB have become resistant to Isoniazid. I belive the newer strains are treated with a cocktail of several different drugs in addition to Isoniazid because of the bacterial resistance problem. The only reason I know any of this is because I knew a person who had indications of TB (not the drug resistant type) and was on the Isoniazid regimen for at least 6 months. Cheers

We had our monthly call with the researchers today. They recently sent us more new work units, with plans to create more after these more recent batches. No additional news on recruiting students/team members, but their efforts continue. Thanks so much for sharing, Caitlin. Really appreciated! |

thanks; sounds good ... there was such a nice wave of work recently and I hope I can finish my 10 year badge; only 8.5 years to go ;-) I think I was a bit behind you when you said that. Now I have just over 1 year until my 10 badge.....and work seems scarce suddenly. :( |

It goes up and down. Try to fill your queue best you can as the project is getting through about 20~40 batches daily.

We had our monthly call with the research team today.
1. There was a discussion about work units, and how the researchers handle units that error out on the grid. (The results going back to the researchers look fine.) 2. The search for new team members/students continues. Across the University, the post-graduate intake has dropped greatly, with 75% fewer applications than normal. (This is an issue throughout the UK right now.) 3. They are waiting to hear back on a recently-submitted paper, and are working on two more. 4. Anna Croft (the project PI) recently spoke about citizen science at a conference, where she educated the audience about World Community Grid and the contributions of volunteers. |

Just finished a quick call with the HSTB researchers:
1. The search for potential students continues. 2. Their recently-submitted paper is still under review. This paper is a proof-of-principle for what the researchers could do with the results of the simulations run on World Community Grid. 3. Work continues on other papers. 4. Dr. Croft received an inquiry from a student reporter in Russia who was interested in writing about the project. The student's article was recently published (in Russian) on a student-run website. |

Is there any statement from the HSTB researchers about how much more work there is for WCG to process? At one time the research page quoted an end date of March 2019 and now it shows 100% complete. However I have never seen a statement from the HSTB researchers.
