Viktors corner

Our monthly call with the Help Stop Tuberculosis research team was fairly uneventful. They continue to receive data from World Community Grid and are exploring the possibility of applying some AI techniques to analyze the data. They are also looking for new research team members and applying for funding.

Re: Viktors corner

Viktor
Any clue of this point that was announced in the News?
Future plans include letting our results “run dry” in a few months’ time. This will help us organize the vast number of simulations that we are currently running. More specifically, by running the results “dry” we will be able to investigate the progress of the simulations, fix any issues, create efficient backups, and then restart the simulations “clean”

Re: Viktors corner

They are still delaying that probably for a few months.

Re: Viktors corner

We had a call with the HSTB researchers this morning.

  • They are investigating the reasons that their server has not been sending work units to WCG, and they will update the forum thread about the problem once they have more information. They'll work with our tech team to get new work sent ASAP.
  • The problem with sending work units has not affected the results they've received from WCG recently--that work appears to be fine.
  • They're continuing to look for new team members. This process can take a long time (for all research teams, not just HSTB) because they need graduate students and/or post-docs with scientific training as well as advanced computer science training and experience.

    @Jay basically yes
    Uplinger said in another HST thread:
    We have received an update from the researchers. There are a few things happening at this time. But the main thing is they are using this stoppage as a way to rework some of the inputs used on this project. We do not have an ETA of these new work units. We will let you know more when we get more information.

    As a note: This could be after the new year due to the holidays.
