That site tends to post a lot of rumors rather than facts. Also, they tend to steal pictures and not credit them. Also, a 100% OC from 1.4 to 2.8 sounds REALLY fishy to me. 1) I know they're not 100% accurate, but a) they were spot-on with (Ry)Zen rumors, and b) they're the only ones reporting any sort of frequency at all. I'm not stating wccf as fact, just mentioning that a 2.5-3GHz clock speed on a 32-core CPU is very unlikely. It'd burn through the mobo under load. Lol 2) That much turbo on a single core out of 32 should not surprise you, especially on a chip with a TDP of 180 watts. Intel has managed higher boosts on lower bases on some of their CPUs by configuring their TDP up a bit. I know it's a totally different architecture and market, and AMD's turbo management doesn't work the same way SpeedStep does, but still. It's possible. ![]() Crunchers: 1: Xeon E5-2695 v3 @ 2.5GHz turbo (14C/28T) 2: Xeon E5-2658 v3 @ 2.3GHz turbo (12C/24T) 3: Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.675GHz OC (8C/16T) 4: Core i7-4700MQ @ 3.2GHz cTDP up (4C/8T) |

I understand that, just a bit skeptical. We'll have to wait and see! :)

It seems, to me anyway, that AMD tends to follow IBM rather closely in their chip designs. A lot of things that IBM designs into their Power chips seem to end up in the AMD chips at some point. A few years back it was so close that I kind of felt their may have been some collaboration going on although I never could find any real facts to support that. IBM decided a few years ago that instead of increasing clock speed they would rather execute more instructions per clock pulse providing more throughput without having to dissipate the additional heat. AMD seems to be going that way now. You notice that AMD uses term SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) vs Hyperthreading. IBM has always used the term SMT. Since IBM has pushed their chips to SMT4 and SMT8, I suspect you will see the same in AMD chips in the next few years especially in their server chips. Just speculation on my part

as long as I can crunch 2 work units per core they can call it what they like :D

----------------------------------------of interest... Dr. Lisa Su, currently CEO of AMD formally held the position of Director of Emerging Products at IBM. Mark Papermaster, who is currently AMD’s CTO also formally worked at IBM alongside Dr. Lisa Su. There are probably others in lessor positions...

Today is indeed release day but has anyone actually been able to get hold of one? over here in the UK i'd have more luck trying to buy a unicorn online, all i'm seeing is lots of 'PRE-ORDER' buttons.
Same with the GTX1080ti, after all the 'somethings coming' stuff on their website you can only pre order that too. Stop showing me stuff I can't buy - it's annoying. I'm going outside now to shout at some clouds. |

They are in actual stores in the USA today, like microcenter...not sure what the global rollout plan is though.

Paul D,
----------------------------------------It will probably take a little while. Amazon UK no longer shows pre-order buttons but it shows that all Ryzen CPU's are out of stock except for this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-YD180XBCAEWOF-8-...-1&keywords=AMD+Ryzen 3 left as of now but from another retailer, not Amazon so it's more expensive. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |
