Re: Intel Compute Stick?

A search of 'intel compute stick fan' makes me only want a fanless version, if they exist.
There are other Intel Atom devices, like tablets, that are similarly priced and don't have fans.

Re: Intel Compute Stick?

Hi Enels,

What's the drawback of having a fan? In case of failure?

Purchased this for another use but thinking of also running WCG on it. Trying to figure out how many cores and utilization I would set it for 24/7.

Here's the spec sheet:

The fan may be noisy and can break. It is a moving part in a device that shouldn't have one. May be my issue though after learning to hate fans :)

You should be fine running all cores 24/7.

Put some program to regulate that...like Tthrottle & forget about it!
Easy... wink

Re: Intel Compute Stick?

Hey Klik,

Thanks — thinking more of exactly which parameters I would implement to minimize the chance of early failure of the device

Re: Intel Compute Stick?

The only thing that is likely to fail early is the fan. I would expect the fan to last several years at least while crunching. Intel builds robust stuff. The fan also looks easy to replace if you can find a replacement.

You shouldn't have any heat problems, but KLiK's advice about Tthrottle can help in some cases. There are other ways using BOINC to reduce CPU usage to meet a heat goal.
