Hey guys,
----------------------------------------A few days ago, one of my computers (running an E5-2658 v3 ES) needed to restart. Upon doing so, Windows continued to fail at booting up, freezing at the "Starting Windows" screen (it's running Windows 7) every time I tried, which was many. Additionally, I couldn't get into the BIOS or any other boot menu by any means. As a result, I removed the hard drive and reinstalled Windows on a new drive, along with WCG and the other temp/CPU management tools I typically use. The old drive still seems to otherwise work fine; I removed the OS from it and it's now just being used as secondary storage. Ever since then, the majority of the results this machine is returning are not validated and are shown under the "Results Status" tab as being "Detached". Is all of this a potential sign of CPU failure (as a result of buying an engineering sample), or is there something else I need to know here? I've also contacted WCG support, but am doubtful that I'll get a response anytime soon. Any help from a bigger brain than I here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Hi Kasey, although I'm certainly no expert on this, it could be that, with all the changes you've made to try and get your system back up and running again, the "WCG link" between the old and new systems/WU's could have got lost.
----------------------------------------If all your current WU's are returning "Detached" results, what may be worthwhile doing, is aborting/cancelling all the WU's you've currently got on that machine and doing a BOINC "Reset Project" - and hopefully, then the new WU's that should be downloaded, will be attached to that particular machine, and thus, return/validate successfully. ![]() |

My main crunching 4 core PC had similar problem.
----------------------------------------I could get into Bios but it would not boot. Change of power supply didn't fix problem. Change of HD didn't fix problem. Could not install a new OS. Found to be a failing / faulty Motherboard. As I would require a new MB, CPU +OS, I am probably going to get a new PC. Patrick ![]() |
