Mama mia, you blew up and fried my kids computer, xpad, smartfoon... I think you're culpable ;O)))))
----------------------------------------Issue I have is, WCG then really has to be inside the kids approved websites zone and parental control has to become an integral part to include the sign-up to WCG got to include a question to ascertain that there is >= 18 year consent. Is there? (There's the famous "Accept end user license agreement" tickbox that nobody, I mean NOBODY reads.) (Whilst, the Buena Vista Social Club is coming out the surround sound system speakers, Canta lo sentimental... nothing 'community' I can discover in the WCG terms) [Edit 1 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Jul 29, 2016 4:06:55 PM] |

For comparison:
"Facebook requires everyone to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account (in some jurisdictions, this age limit may be higher). Creating an account with false info is a violation of our terms. This includes accounts registered on the behalf of someone under 13." |

Seriously ? Where did you take the offense? I'm not offended. In fact, this change doesn't even affect me, seeing as I'm over 18 anyway. I just don't want to support a project that's giving up on youngsters (and yes, I did read the post above saying they aren't giving up, but I can't help but feel like that's exactly what they're doing with this move). There's the famous "Accept end user license agreement" tickbox that nobody, I mean NOBODY reads. Whenever I'm installing a program, I always think "Do you accept to sell your soul?" and click Yes. If there's someone by my side, they usually laugh at me saying that, for they would do the same. ![]() Want to have an image of yourself like this on? I just don't want to support a project that's giving up on youngsters I understand your concern (although I don't see it that way), but on the flip side you're giving up on research that could save and improve the life's of countless people (no offense, just another point of view). Hope you reconsider and continue to help. Thanks.CJSL World Community Grid: the final frontier. These are the adventures of the grid WCG. There's the famous "Accept end user license agreement" tickbox that nobody, I mean NOBODY reads. I can't say I have read very many of those EULA's, but just to satisfy my curiosity, I have read a couple. I believe they were written by sadistic lawyers bent on obfuscating to the Nth degree. They should limit the number of clauses in one sentence to a single digit number and try putting in a period once in a while. The use of a simple declarative sentence is totally foreign to them. Their most useful function, near as I can tell, is to induce total stupor in the reader. Cheers

Just noticed that Microsoft get away with this wording (from an email "Updates to our terms of use and privacy statement" regarding Skype).
If you are a parent or guardian, you are responsible for your child’s or teenager’s use of Microsoft products and services, including purchases. and a detailed paragraph startingBy signing up, you represent that you have either reached the age of "majority" where you live or have valid parent or legal guardian consent to be bound by these Terms. Can WCG do the same? |

There's the famous "Accept end user license agreement" tickbox that nobody, I mean NOBODY reads. Of course nobody reads them. The iTunes phone app T&C take 193 minutes to read https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldview...-norwegians-tried-it-out/ It's all just a silly game played by companies and lawyers, but paid for by consumers who do not care a tiny bit about it all. |

Seriously ? Where did you take the offense? Somewhere around the "allow existing volunteers under 18 to continue participating." The wording of the post and the new terms of service sounds like WCG wants all us minors to **** off and leave the world's problems to the grown-ups. In all seriousness, what other reason would there be for an age limit? To keep a 12-year-old from suing WCG for doing exactly what it said it does? Most sites have an age limit. What's missing here is that option for a parent to give their consent. |
