There was a next one waiting before the previous had finished, a _1 'original' again, of batch 1141.

The work units seem to have been limited since the project started, yet HSTB is showing 5% completion already. I assume that is because we are at an early stage and a lot more work units will be forthcoming?
Thanks, Kevin |

I have no problem getting these work units. with only a desktop and laptop (each only 4 cores) at my disposal I have been able to acquire 389 tasks so far.
----------------------------------------![]() The trick is the aforementioned 3 and 33 minutes past the hour. Initially I was led to believe that WU's would be released at 100 per half hour and started trying to obtain WU's at exactly on the hour. However, I soon realised that this did not work when trying to manually update exactly on the hour (and half hour). Fortunately, there is a built-in back-off of 2 minutes on WCG, so waiting until the back-off was over and trying a refresh resulted in me stumbling on the 3 minute trick. I was hoping to keep the secret to myself, but hey, share and share alike. ![]()

Thanks, Kevin I think i read somewhere that it's based on the amount of work done that was received by the scientists right now. [Edit 1 times, last edit by frederikhk at Apr 26, 2016 4:56:13 PM] |

At 5% per 30 days there are 19 months remaining. 6000 years total at 10 years per day.

I've seen MCM fluctuate ±3% in a single day;; don't rely on the % unless an end date is on there for more than 24 hours.

At 5% per 30 days there are 19 months remaining. 6000 years total at 10 years per day. sthg like that...but, as it was mentioned, it's going to be an intermittent project... so even with speed up which will give you minimum of 13,5m...we can strongly agree that it will about 19m from now...end of 2017! ![]() I've seen MCM fluctuate ±3% in a single day;; don't rely on the % unless an end date is on there for more than 24 hours. fluctuation ±3% give you a problem only when you do a calculation of left-over WUs 'cause of the current (last day, last week, last month) results...but if you do it from the beginning of the project, you get a more accurate result! of course, it's not a straight line, but an exponentiation function (Moore law of speeding up the computers from year to a year)...so every result which is more than 3m you have to correct a little... but if you aim only by the straight line from the beginning of the project & upgrade your equipment with newer procs with more cores (don't have to have speed on WCG, it was explained some time ago)...then you get the recognition & badges! ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Apr 27, 2016 7:02:20 AM] |

I'm not sure I understand why we only get a few HST at a time, but here is what I think is happening. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
----------------------------------------It's important that you crunch at least one other project in addition to HST. I'm doing OET, and this keeps my computers busy since OET WU are plentiful. Every so often, my client does a search for new WU, and if some HST are available I get them. Thus, I need to do searches relatively often in order to pick up the HST. By crunching other projects besides HST, I increase the probability that I'll snag one or more HST, because I do searches more often. If possible, the other projects need to have relatively short completion times. In my case, OET WU come with a deadline out 1.07 hours. I don't have the experience or smarts to create scripts to control my searches for new WU, so I'm letting BOINC control the searches for me. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Allen008 at Apr 27, 2016 3:54:38 PM] |
