Hi cjslman that a load of **** your are speaking I have crunched with WCG for years and every new project that comes out only a certain few are allowed for some reason to get an ample supply of wus' - the rest of us have to wait and pick up the crumbs its about time WCG got their act together and treated all crunchers the same Regards I would respectfully disagree with some caveats. Granted, there have been some projects with limited WU availability, namely the African Climate project and the Dengue Fever project. The former was due to hardware limitations and was ultimately discontinued for reasons I don't remember. The Dengue Fever project had hard to get units, but it turns out the researchers did not get the results they needed from the docking software even after numerous tweaks so they ended the project. (I think a hurricane also severely negatively impacted their campus labs). It has already been explained how this project will progress with later units being built and designed based on the results from the beginning units. The go slow approach is merely the learning phase of the project. Without actively pursuing the WU's, but merely leaving it as an option on a couple of my machines I have gotten a few here and there. The people who have had it as an exclusive option have certainly gotten the bulk of the units as well as those who have actively pursued the units by various strategems. I don't feel I have been treated any differently than any others. Should I wish to actively get the units, I could use some of the options described elsewhere to do so. that a load of **** your are speaking Now that's not very nice, is it? Just think what your grammar teacher will think of you ! ![]() I have crunched with WCG for years Guess what, me too ![]() every new project that comes out only a certain few are allowed for some reason to get an ample supply of wus' Ah... you have evidence of this ? It's obvious that those crunchers that have more servers (and some WCG participants have impressive amounts of cores crunching for WCG) will receive more WUs than those that have fewer cores. Also, there are servers that are considered as "reliable (due to the fact that those servers consistently return healthy completed WUs or have very few WUs with errors) that get first pick at the resends. Another also... there are ways to tweak things (aka babysit) and get a few more WUs (like whacking the "Update" option every half hour). On the plus side, I see you have a silver badge for HST... that's a lot more than many have right now. Congrats and enjoy ![]() CJSL Crunching for a brighter future... *edited to appropriate forum language - ErikaT ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by ErikaT at Apr 25, 2016 11:20:27 AM] |

The only way is to limit the WU's per user in a small batch. So every one will have a chance to get some.. now the "big boys" absorb all of them...

Limiting 'per-user' does absolutely -not- exist. BOINC has facility to limit per-core or device, but since anyone who actually reads the manuals can fake to have a thousand cores in a instance or install as many concurrent clients as possible, a joke control.

I believe the limited WUs problem was magnified by the initial failure of the X32 WUs. So far, I have yet to receive any of these Help Stop TB work units, and my machine is a 4-core Intel Xeon box with 64-bit cores. I have no trouble getting other WCG project work units, and I could get the Seti@home ones until I set no new work units for them. Likewise, I have set no new work units for Rosetta@home and malaria.net. I have none of those running anymore. ![]() |

Lately it seems that Help Stop TB WU's are flowing more consistently.

"Lately it seems..." you may count your blessings. There's never been more than 10K validations in a day. At one point uplinger wrote 100 per half hour, and another 50 per half hour, which is kind of a reflection of a median of 6-7K a day. Still getting an average of 1-2 a day on my octo as sideloaders for the OET/UGM/HST project selection. Now have 2 T000 and 1 T400, batch 1070, an _1 at that, an original. A lone 8 core, but running 24/7 churning out 40-45 results a day, and thus asking an equal number of random times for a back-fill.

Things have been looking up over the weekend. I'm currently running 5 HST WU. I don't expect that people like me on Macintosh will get as many WU as those on other platforms, but I can't complain. I just take the WU as they come, and I'm glad for each one. The important thing is that WCG as a whole does enough to satisfy the scientists and thus keep IBM happy; I'm sure that IBM is spending a lot of money in support of WCG. Thanks to everyone!

The important thing is that WCG as a whole does enough to satisfy the scientists... I agree that this is an important part of the project. If what is returned is what is expected and needed by the scientists (to keep them satisfied), then we're on the right path. Luck to all the crunchers.CJSL Crunching for a better world... |
