I am yet to order a GPU, simply because the mobo I ordered has onboard display port and hdmi The motherboard might have the required traces - but AMD have not yet released Ryzen CPUs with integrated graphics - better get that GPU now :-) EDIT: Kasey beat me to it by 14 seconds :-)

joneill003, Nice system, but the onboard video ports won't function with a Ryzen CPU,as they have no onboard graphics. Those ports are for last-gen and upcoming APUs. The motherboard might have the required traces - but AMD have not yet released Ryzen CPUs with integrated graphics - better get that GPU now :-) EDIT: Kasey beat me to it by 14 seconds :-) Glad you guys let me know this. I would have been greatly annoyed by finding this out while neck deep into the install ![]() Just ordered a gtx1050. Won't be here till tomorrow, but I can get most of the system built today and toss the card in tomorrow after work. It was an expense I wasn't really prepared for, but I think it will do me just fine. As I previously stated, I don't really game, so if wcg ever gets a gpu capable project, that would be all its really used for. And I know how bad lag can be if using your primary gpu as a cruncher, so I dont know that I would keep it as a primary at that point. Edit: I like that the 1050 is low power enough to draw just from the pci-e slot, so one less cable to run too. I bought the smaller one with one fan (i think it was the evga one) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 30, 2017 11:20:52 AM] |

Today was working on my computers...on one RAID1 replaced the disk, as one was getting heard (so not much life left).
----------------------------------------Also, tried to put Q9550S into DP35DP motherboard. It works, BIOS shows, but Windows 10 won't boot up...Microsoft will boot up with expensive Xeons, but not with normal quads. Too bad, as I wanted to get 30W less power with it! https://communities.intel.com/thread/119082 What a waste of time, that those people do in Intel. ;) Also, ordered myself a new card of Ubuntu. So to kick up some more RAC & GRC with it. B) |

I have two laptops, Circa 2008. The hard drive failed in one and I replaced with an SSD and that failed. The hard drive in the other failed. I bought twp 500 GB Western Digital Blue hard drives and they are back running Windows Vista. I have never had a Western Digital hard drive fail on me. I set their max CPU to 70% (1 Ghz and 1.33 GHz) and they both run very quietly. The fan failed in one, but it is able to cool itself passively. The other has a fan that will be easy to replace when/if it fails. So for $100 UISD I have two nice C2D laptops.
I was thinking of putting SSDs in them, but I won't be using them much and a hard drive is fast enough for the WCG. Likely more reliable too. |

Made my old DP35DP come back to life this weekend...& on Day of the dead, completed installation of 1030 inside my linux machine...to have some more power for SETi@home...
----------------------------------------Thinking now how to repurpose my old DP35DP? & how to fix my DP35DP work with Q9550S on WIn10? ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Nov 2, 2017 10:28:28 PM] |

According to http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel/DP35DP.html Q9550S should work with that mobo but needs bios revision 0484 (probably the last revision before end of life).
----------------------------------------That board is pretty ancient, and that processor, even though it is listed at 65w TDP, is a 45nm chip, and probably runs very hot and slow for crunching. Not saying don't use it, but I wouldn't invest any money into making it functional. Edit: also, with that old of a system and slow RAM, I would choose a lightweight flavor of Linux to install on it. Well it runs now on X3360, which is about 95W - same era processor. ![]() But on this system I use Windows 10 with 1050Ti card for occasional fun in ME: Andromeda. Unfortunately, Windows 10 has a great promotion material in Windows 10 Specifications & Systems Requirements. But doesn't support the older CPUs, as I have found out here: https://communities.intel.com/thread/116372 Will see about upgrade soon to some Workstation from DELL. ![]() |

So the system will POST and you can get into BIOS, you just cant run win 10 on it?
Just throw win 7 or linux on it if you want to run the 9550. If not, 30w isnt a huge deal breaker and its still 4 cores. |
