Unless running at just base frequency with no XFR boost, the Ryzen 1700 (non-X) seems to draw more than its 65W TDP rating suggests. I don't have a wall meter, so the below is just using SIV64X to take a reading.

My Ryzen 1700 (non-X) at 3.3GHz / 1.03V is reporting around 8-9W (let's say an average of 8.5W) per core at full 16 thread load. That's already 68W for the 8 cores alone. Additionally, I expect there should be another 8-10W for the uncore / infinity fabric etc, making the total around 77W power draw.

Officially the 1700's boost clock is 3.7GHz, but it can't maintain this speed within a 65W TDP rating at full load - it can only boost a couple of cores to 3.7GHz while keeping the rest at base frequency. Nevertheless, considering the amount of work it's completing, these are still good results.

I just put on 2 R610's, one with dual X5650's and one with dual x5670's. No hard drives, just a USB stick and only using one power supply. So far it looks like about 9.5 watts per thread and about 16000 Boinc pts/day on Vina. After they settle in for about a week I'll post the average figures.

OK, here are the figures as best as I can.
Dell R610 with dual XEON X5670's - total 24 threads
Only one power supply of two being used
No hard drive - running off of a 16GB flash drive
Linux Mint 18
Running only SCC (VINA)
Total watts at the wall: 238
Average WCG points per day from Feb. 22 to March 25: 115,151
Average BOINC credits per day from Feb.25 to March 25: 16450
Average BOINC points per thread per day: 685
Average work units per day: 237 (Range 110 to 528)
Unit runs 24/7
Average daily utilization of cpu time (excluding the first day): 23.92 hours (99.65 %)
Average watts per thread: 9.92

I tried to post this on OldChap's spreadsheet, but must not have done it correctly.

Interesting post since I am also interested in efficiency (T / W)
I just say that Creators update just introduced a new setting for Processor power management ...maximum processor frequency, which was similar to Maximum processor state (e.g. 25% :) )
So anyone wants to lower their cpu freq and rerun some numbers?
I am already using a J1900 celeron with 800Mhz (only 3 cores) and consuming for CPU Package + IA Cores around 1.5W

I should update also my instructable :P

When I check the PPD/watts for various machines, the notebook with a 3740QM chip rates the highest - but I wonder if it won't last very long before failing. I did have to throttle it back some to keep from overheating. Any ideas how long notebooks can handle 24/7 being fully loaded? The xeons seem to run cool at max output.

My previous laptop, a ThinkPad, ran 24/7 for 6yrs 4mts before the video card died and it refused to boot.

My current laptop is a gaming machine. I didn't buy it to play games, but because they're built to handle high processor/video use (and I got a good discount).

Mine is broken right now, but it's only "fan error" on Lenovo system. Have to reboot it properly with new cooler with fan. ;)

Also, been using Tthrottle , especially on laptops!
