applause Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

My droids are averaging 103 PPW.

Is this good, bad or mediocre?

That's still very good, on par with 2011v3 Xeons and better than most desktop CPUs.

Old 45nm CPUs can do 35-40 PPW, 22nm i5/i7 desktops can do 80+ PPW.

AMD FX CPUs can go under 20 PPW if you overclock with 1.5V VCore. confused

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

Before we go much further, maybe we should decide on a correct unit of measurement. Here are a few suggestions:

RACPW - RAC per watt
RACW - RAC watt
CPDW - Cobblestones per Day Watt

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

before you should go further, maybe it would be better to be put:

C/W - Cores per Watt
T/W - Threads per Watt

So we can all know how much days we get from a 24/7 machine running...at least WCG is only here for badges! ;)

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

I simply take the points WCG says the device made that day and divide it by the watts it consumes in 24 hours...

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

This looks pretty good so far. have got an HP Prodesk with an I7-6700 processor and an platinum rated PSU. Draws 71 watts from the wall. Must let it run some time now so get stable amount of points.

But compair with the Dell Vostro who draw 68 watts (With one HDD less) and has an I3-2021 (I think) this runs in circles around it.

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

Have done a bit of a revamp with a view to recording watts per thread.

Please let me know if you see any errors

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

I just put on 2 R610's, one with dual X5650's and one with dual x5670's. No hard drives, just a USB stick and only using one power supply. So far it looks like about 9.5 watts per thread and about 16000 Boinc pts/day on Vina. After they settle in for about a week I'll post the average figures.
Cheers

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

The Ryzen 1700 looks like 5 watts/thread. 80/16

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

Or 7.5 W/T (120/16). Still impressive for the Ryzen 1700.

It looks like P/W is the winner in unit of measurement.

Where P = BOINC ppd (WGG ppd/7)
Where W = watts at the wall
Where T = threads

For comparison: P/W W/T
Ryzen 1700 100 (12000/120) 7.5
i7 4700s 50 (4300/85) 10.6
Atom Z3740 150 (600/4) 1
