Points per watt: Lets try an update

Time moves on, Crunchers get more efficient.

Maybe it is time then to re-visit crunching efficiency in an attempt to cut costs or just stay a bit cooler this summer.

I suggest we give this a go.

So if you have a power meter, such as a Kill-a-Watt, feel free to ADD YOUR RESULTS at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Gl-pM...QiR_5--c/edit?usp=sharing

This is a temporary, Input page. As and when I can I will manually copy your data over to another, more permanent page (where I control the editing wink) I will then clear the entry on the input page

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ll78D...Bvo2xlII/edit?usp=sharing

I will certainly try my best to maintain this for at least a month, hopefully longer.

I hope that between us we get a clear picture of running costs of different hardware and perhaps this will bring to light some interesting points of note.

I am open to ideas on this by the way.... especially as I am new to Google Docs

EDIT: Those of you who can get to test various hardware can enter just a watts figure in running. please just comment on project. As far as I am concerned all info is good info

EDIT2: For clarification, the charts are in BOINC points

No data to post, but thanks for compiling this! This is the kind of information I love reviewing when making a purchase.

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

Hmm my fx 6350 uses 190W-200W. A few more watts in summer than in winter. It is possible that in higher temperatures PC takes more energy?

Don't know for sure, but would have thought so. Higher temps mean the fan(s) is/are running longer/faster to keep things cool.

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

Just to let you know OldChap,

I have a double entry in the final version only you edit. The A8-6500 appears twice. You can delete the last one.

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

Well, now having run multiple days on low cycle, saving 6KWh/day according the power meter, and points dropped from 70-80K day to 40-45K [No change in runtime/day averages]. To conclude, 6KWH is worth 30-35K WCG points, 4.3-5K cobblestones on my complement. No new hardware, so nothing improving in credit/watts ratios :|

Opening both the Docs of the OP, just see a sample line, nothing else.

Re: Points per watt: Lets try an update

They both have data SekeRpb.

Only the first has just one line as an example. The second has plenty of entries.
