Obviously you haven't been following this little soap opera for very long, otherwise you wouldn't have made some of those comparisons.
----------------------------------------But that's fine. If people want to attack me for what I'm doing, bring it on. If I can help even in the smallest of ways to get WCG to address issues we have been complaining about for YEARS, I couldn't possibly care less what people think of me. ![]() ![]() |

----------------------------------------Picking up on points made in your posts: I think the WCG staff does a great job running the Grid and should be complimented Agreed but as jhindo acknowledges they are not perfect. It took 8+ years before a Member Survey was mounted to assess the many and varied reasons why and how volunteers participate. WCG has three projects running right now. True but CEP2 has requirements which make it unsuitable for some users and FAAH is not crunched by some users for various reasons. So really there is only 1 project with universal appeal. I'm sure the WCG staff have much better things to do than respond to all these nagging posts. Agreed but there will always be "silly posts" from new users and from those who don't take the trouble to read before they post. That's why Community Advisors are an important resource that allows the tech team to concentrate on things that matter. Yet nothing has been done to augment the number of active CAs (2) in the 8 months since knreed said action was overdue. And now SekeRob is MIA.Did anyone stop to think that the lack of communication from the WCG folks could be self-inflicted by us? Maybe we need higher badges. Obvious to you maybe but not to WCG. Overhaul and extension of Badges has been discussed in the forum ad nauseam without any input or response from WCG. The need for more badges did come through in the member survey but there has been no indication when, or if, this will be addressed. It's obvious to me badges and points are the motivating factor here. Without them there would be no Grid. True. And without volunteers there would be no Grid. WCG is no different to mainstream charities in having to compete for a share of finite resources. There will always be those who contribute no matter what, as little old ladies contribute to animal charities, but an interactive dialogue with volunteers has enormous potential to increase contribution. |

Thanks Johnnie - as always you are so much better with the specifics than I am and so much more articulate and even-tempered. I will have to try harder to follow your example.
----------------------------------------I second everything that Johnnie said but for me the real issue is the Ripple Labs giveaway. Not because I care about earning cash on WCG. I would hope that would be obvious to people merely from the length of my tenure here and my position in the rankings. Obviously I've been committed to WCG for a very long time. And prior to the current debacle, I didn't especially care what reasons or excuses the staff gave for not making more of an effort. I was happy to just keep my machines up and crunching. But all that changed when I saw that despite people joining in droves due to the giveaway, we couldn't seem to hang on to those people. I've said this before but since it doesn't seem to have stuck, I'll say it again here. We have more than 100 people joining WCG every day and yet since the beginning of January, the number of active members has been declining. This is so painfully obvious from the charts here . If you haven't done this before, take a moment now to review the third and fourth charts down. I think this is inexcusable and is the direct result of a variety of factors including this hideous forum software. But the real issue is that no one seems to know why we are hemorrhaging users and no one at IBM or WCG seems to give a rat's buttocks. I can't even begin to comprehend the sort of apathy that results in such a blatant disregard for the loss of literally THOUSANDS of new volunteers. Can you? ![]() ![]() |

I think it's pretty funny that jhindo and knreed didn't waste any time misinterpreting my post comparing UD to WCG. But they don't seem to be in any hurry to address the issue I raised in my previous post. I wonder why that is.
----------------------------------------I'm sure it's just because they have more important things to do than address the loss of thousands of new users. ![]() ![]() |

I must have also miss read your post comparing UD to WCG, your commeints were pointed...
----------------------------------------As stated in my other above post... which you have not responded too Here is it again in case you missed it the 1st time... Ok I might not be the sharpest knife, with that said. Why do you need all this info? What good will come of it? I would bet, if they gave you that info (which I don't think they need to), you would find something wrong with their response, for example if they said 3 new people were added to the project, you would comeback with why only 3 why not 4. And at the same time ask to see there resume. their back ground check, past work history and 10 more things, you and I donât need access to. Again what is that going to gain the project. Why not contact WCG and let them know you have a skill set they could use, and work it from that angle, I bet they would take you up on the offer. What skill set do you have that could help WCG? In closing WGC..... keep fighting the good fight. ![]() |

If you're going to take that attitude CT, I'd point out that I did in fact respond to you at 11:33pm EST yesterday. The post starts out 'Thanks for the input CT.' CT would be you. I guess you just scanned for your name rather than reading any of my actual posts. Slick move dude.
