Re: Mapping Cancer Markers - Problems Thread

Since two hours ago I've run a lot little WU's... the runtime is about 15-20 minutes at my main pc. I have tested this strange thing also on another pc, but both have these small WU's. Very strange...

Are there more people who have those little WU's since this evening?

All WU's are Pending Validation btw... I am curious whether they are getting validated. :X
Claimed BOINC credit is also just about 6 credits per task.

Taking less than 10 minutes a task here. And some have validated, so it looks like they are just short ones.

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers - Problems Thread

Okay, thnx for your quick response!
I've seen now that some of these tiny cute little WU's in meanwhile also validated in my result list. I think it's okay then... :)

My WU's are rendered with hyperthreading on (4c/8t @ 4GHz), so maybe thats why my WU's are a little bit longer than yours.

Started with these really short WU's about 4 hours ago, so far have added about 10 pages to my PV's.

. . . let's see how long these short jobs last.

I have 18 tasks in PV averaging run-time of 0.24 of an hour. It will be interesting to see if the short tasks will run until the end of the project. If this is the case the project could be finished quite quickly. I hope this is not the case

Thanks everyone for the feedback on the dataset file

I haven't seen any of those ultra short jobs in MCM1 yet, but I maintain about a 24 hour queue, so maybe tomorrow. (As an aside, I have started to see ultra short FAHV units in Fight Aids.) Coincidence ???? Or maybe a conscious decision by the techs/scientists to to make the WU's easier to digest ????
Cheers

I hope it is the case. The quicker the project completes the quicker the results can be analyzed and more importantly the benefits realized.

I agree with you on the fact that the quicker the results get done the quicker the benefits can be realised. Bring on faster results so results can be realised. Thinking about it at it may just be a certain number of batches that are running fast.
A slightly off topic to finish. My FAHV are completing in an hour or just over

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers - Problems Thread

I have a couple lightly used family computers in my team. With these shorter and tiny WUs now in MCM1, I actually saw some MCM1 WUs complete (and in some cases validated) on these family computers (versus the last 3 months where every WU run on them have gone No Reply before they got done in a 7 or 10 day period). I hope at some of these WUs continue to be on the smaller size going forward, it would keep some smaller crunchers in the game doing productive (running to completion and validating) work.

Also I wonder if this is a test to see if these WUs can be made small enough to download and run on mobile devices. Something to think about....

Re: Mapping Cancer Markers - Problems Thread

I have finally started to see some of these shorter units. They are running 20 to 30 minutes on my core 2 duo's under Linux vs. the previous 5 to 7 hours. Like everyone else I am wondering if they will continue at this rate or revert to their previous lengths.
Cheers
