Hello Team,
the new Beta is here, but we still do not know the project name. So just a little speculation until it is revealed. One Beta WU errored out and the .pdb file (used in compliation process) was: Linked PDB Filename : c:\projects\wcgridAustinWorkspace\scienceApps\MCM1\x64\Release\wcgrid_mcm1_prod_64.pdb So I assume that MCM1 is the short name of the new project. What do you think it migh stand for (my guess is that the C stands for Cancer - enemy we are supposted to fight with this project) What are your guesses? |

The MCM complex: its role in DNA replication and implications for cancer therapy.
Lei M. Source Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Medical College of Wisconsin, 8701 Watertown Plank Road, Milwaukee, WI 53226, USA. mlei@mcw.edu Abstract The MCM complex controls the once per cell cycle DNA replication in eukaryotic cells. In a process known as DNA replication licensing, it primes chromatin for DNA replication by binding origins of DNA replication during the late M to early G1 phase of the cell cycle. Activated by S phase promoting protein kinases, the origin-bound MCM complexes unwind the double stranded DNA at the origins, recruit DNA polymerases and initiate DNA synthesis. Coupled with the initiation of DNA replication in the S phase, the MCM complexes move away from replication origins as a component of the DNA replication fork, likely serving as DNA helicases. Their departure deprives replication origins the ability to re-initiate DNA replication for the reminder of the cell cycle. Because of its vital role in genome duplication in proliferating cells, deregulation of the MCM function results in chromosomal defects that may contribute to tumorigenesis. The MCM proteins are highly expressed in malignant human cancers cells and pre-cancerous cells undergoing malignant transformation. They are not expressed in differentiated somatic cells that have been withdrawn from the cell cycle. Therefore, these proteins are ideal diagnostic markers for cancer and promising targets for anti-cancer drug development. In this article, I will overview the structures and functions of the MCM complex with an effort to integrate insights from recent biochemical and structural studies. Discussions will also cover activities and structures of the complex that may be useful for the development of drug screens. |

Funny, was discussing with one tech about this and he responded that there was always somewhere a breadcrumb left ;]. You'll find it quite easy to come up with something plausible if you read the 'right' posts [and you could choose to keep it under the hat too as others have kindly done in past ;]]]]]].

last opened project was MCM in the end of last year... is something in WCG focus to start in near future? (~3months)

Last I heard from jhindo, she said that a new project was in the early stages of launch (testing etc). But I am fairly sure this was a while now...

Folks, we're still working on the new project and work is proceeding well. No estimated launch date yet. Thanks for your patience and we'll keep you posted!

Thanks jhindo for piping in here - it's good to know that a new project is in the offing. Hopefully, your testing/preparations go smoothly, and we'll see signs of a new Beta soon.

I don't suppose there are any indications of this being a GPU enabled project.
