Ok, That sounds more like it but yes, Linux is the smart way to go here.. I'm scared to think what this could do on linux! Would probably make what little hair you have left fall out. ![]() Yuppers! ![]() ![]() |

Update: This thing is truly a beast.
----------------------------------------With the 10 core 2670's app 140K a day WCG points at 3047MHz With the 8 core E5-2687W V2 IB chips at 3871 a little more than that but on FAAH WU it's getting credited at app 186,000PPD WCG I should have a pair of the top 12 bin E5-2697 V2's in hand in app 1-2 weeks and then we'll make some real numbers! ![]() ![]() |

Update: This thing is truly a beast. Just curious, but would you run 'CPU Benchmarks' within BOINC and post them? With the 10 core 2670's app 140K a day WCG points at 3047MHz With the 8 core E5-2687W V2 IB chips at 3871 a little more than that but on FAAH WU it's getting credited at app 186,000PPD WCG I should have a pair of the top 12 bin E5-2697 V2's in hand in app 1-2 weeks and then we'll make some real numbers! ![]() I'll looking to replace my machines and like the sounds of your latest tests. However, would like a comparison with my current machine... Many thanks

You can see it here:
----------------------------------------http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=host&proj=bwcg&hostid=2326979 for comparison mine run at 2.4 ![]() http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=host&proj=bwcg&hostid=2408756 if you compare the points though, bear in mind I run linux and his is windows ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by OldChap at Sep 19, 2013 8:04:56 PM] |

You can see it here: Many thanks OldChap, it compares with one of my 8 core machines, speed wise at least, the benefit is that Movieman's is listed as 32 cores!http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=host&proj=bwcg&hostid=2326979 for comparison mine run at 2.4 ![]() http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=host&proj=bwcg&hostid=2408756 if you compare the points though, bear in mind I run linux and his is windows My 8 core FX8350 OS Details: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00) Movieman's 32 cores Number of CPU's: 32I would have to run 4 of my machines to do as much work as this one! I would be interested to know what the actual power consumption is while running flat out on all 32 cores?

Couple points:
----------------------------------------Don't read too much into the numbers at FreeDc because I've been running a lot of tests so the machine isn't running WCG 24/7 As to elec draw app 360W at 100% load.. ![]() |

Wow, I had no idea on the benchmarks. However I am a bit surprised they are not higher, even comparing Windows with Linux. Here is mine with a several generations older Xeon E5410 on Linux.
----------------------------------------Floating Point Speed: 2,329.20 million ops/sec Integer Speed: 12,418.52 million ops/sec I know the integer speed is irrelevant for most of the crunching , but I would have thought the newer ones would be better, but they show lower ???? I had expected the floating point to be lower and it is. Cheers

Couple points: Thanks MM, just looking for something to compare the very impressive CPU running 32 cores against. By comparing it with my FX8350 for speed and power gives a good indication it will perform better in the area of output than mine with only a small increase in power consumption.Don't read too much into the numbers at FreeDc because I've been running a lot of tests so the machine isn't running WCG 24/7 As to elec draw app 360W at 100% load.. The only issues are price and availability, the latter not such an issue as budget would have to be resolved first. In the longer term, I'm looking to reduce power consumption while retaining or increasing output. This CPU is a good candidate for both, although it does use slightly more power than a single FX8350, it should prodice way more than double the output. What would this rig cost? Can you provide a list of components and a rough price for each please? Many thanks
