Re: An interesting month

So when are they coming out with a quad socket board? 80 threads would be way too cool. biggrin

They exist but you wouldn't want them and they will take 15 core chips so lets see:
15 times 8=120 cores and with hyperthreading 240 threads..yes, that might crank out a few WU a day! biggrin

Yeah, I could just about imagine the price tag on something like that fully configured - a guy could probably get a pretty nice set of wheels. biggrin

Cheers

Agreed, or two sets..LOL
The machine is just starting to "spool up" on WCG. I have it just on the FAAH project and I was wondering why my PPD were so low. For some reason the "autodock" WU are getting like 9WCG PPH per core and the VINA WU are getting over 20PPH per core( which is more realistic)..I aborted the Autodock WU and just doing the VINA ones and my average is starting to move WAY up..I wonder if there is a way or setting to must get the VINA versions?
Extrapolating some numbers it looks like this machine could be in the top 5 machines project wide and there are some real monsters up at that level.. laughing

At this time there is not. There is supposed to be something in the works eventually, but only the techs know when. If you want VINA only, do SN2S exclusively. BTW I have an older E5410 XEON running on Linux which gets about 35(BOINC)pts/hour on VINA so your newer XEONs should do much better, even under Windows.
Cheers

Re: An interesting month

So Joe, I did a quick calculation for windows 7 vs Linux ppd and came up with a figure about 40% higher for linux on the same hardware. Does that sound about right to you?

I have never put windows on the my XEON systems so I can not speak with any personal experience, but I think you may be correct. The E5410 (Harpertown 45nm) is about 6 years old so Movieman's brand new E5-2670 V2 (Ivy Bridge 22nm) chips should leave the my chips choking on his dust even given the greater efficiency of Linux vs. Windows on Vina. I will switch over one of my systems to FAAH and see how that shakes out compared to Movieman's. It also looks like he had overclocked his a bit too. The bottom line is he should be way faster.
Edit: The Passmark score for the E5410 is 3228 and for the E5 2670 is 13312. That is about 4 times better so unless Windows has some incredible disadvantage he should be way, way faster.
Cheers

Re: An interesting month

Joe: Stay where you are. I just switched over to SN2S so we can get a apples to apples comparision..
I may also have a couple chips downstairs that you might like vs those 5410's..I think I have a pair of 5450's sitting on a shelf..
3000/12mb/1333's if I remember..
I know I have a pair of 5405's but think the 5450's are still here

Re: An interesting month

Hi Movieman, I'm glad to hear you're improving. Sounds like the ambulance driver might be getting a call from a NASCAR team, it looks like he was going so fast he even gave the grim reaper the slip. biggrin

If you see someone in a dark hoodie driving an old black pickup with a large scythe in the back touring round your area looking a bit lost, don't go out and ask if he needs any help. wink

Thank you..LOL
I can tell you that this experience has taught me to leave nothing unsaid because you may not be here tomorrow.
I've had the conversations with friends and family letting them know how I feel about them.
The one thing I don't want is if something happens for people to be left in limbo wondering.
