Evening Team :) Always nice to upgrade DC, What are you putting in? I've removed a RAID 10 array of four WD RED 1.0TB NAS drives (so 2TB in total), and replaced it with a RAID 1 array of two Seagate IronWolf 4TB NAS drives. More capacity, less hassle, probably similar performance, slightly more electricity. The difficult bit was doing a 1TB backup of 5 running virtual machines, one of which is a live mail server, and then restoring them to the new array. The VM with all my media on it took 5 hours. All done now, except for a brief reboot later on to up the fan speed on the front intake fan (which blows over the disks). The disks are running at about 45C, on a relatively cool day. The maximum is 60, but normal is quoted as 5-50, so I'd rather they ran a bit cooler.

Afternoon, team! I can safely say that was an eventful end to that F1 race, some very good racing (and some not so good). No spoilers on the result, in case people don't already know. Hope your mother's OK, DMNI! I've broken toes, and know that it's mildly less than comfortable. Yep, Hope your mum's ok Stephen! Yes Baku was awesome, it's utterly impractical but it makes for great viewing... totally unpredictable. Got some stats for my new(to me - three weeks old but all pre-owned bits ![]()
cheers,

Afternoon, team! I can safely say that was an eventful end to that F1 race, some very good racing (and some not so good). No spoilers on the result, in case people don't already know. Thargor, What an exciting finish, really good to watch. Can't say anything else with out spoiling it. Got some stats for my new to me -Xeon 2628L V4 - points 100k - 120k and 109Watts at the wall so not too bad, it's a dual socket mobo, will hopefully grab another CPU at some point Nice kit mac1. There have been great strides in recent years in lowering cpu power usage, I had an Athlon 64 X2 when it was released which used around 150 watts under load, the threadripper only uses 180 watts. My mums finger has ligament damage and she will have a splint for the next 6 weeks. Thank you for the Condolences, she says it doesn't hurt much. Hoping to hit the 500,000 mark for results in the next update. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Darkmatter.NI at Apr 30, 2018 9:08:11 AM] |

Good Morning all.
----------------------------------------Whew.... I'm exhausted from saturation by Formula 1. I tried to watch the race on TV Catchup but for some insane reason my bandwidth just collapsed and I had to keep reloading. Likewise the commentary on Radio 5 live via the F1 app was less than perfect. As a result yesterday afternoon I downloaded the race (Sky F1 rip) and watched it last night. Pure entertainment through and through. Who would have believed two years ago that Baku would prove to be one of the most exciting GP Circuits ever.

Personally, I find the idea that someone can win simply because someone behind you happens to crash at a convenient moment, to be a fundamental flaw in the sport.

[spoiler alert - assume everyone's watched it now!]
----------------------------------------Yes we've had a couple of anomalous results already this season, Vettel making a place up in a 'neutralised' race didn't sit too well either. However I like to think that over a season the combination of drivers/engineers/strategists etc. will play a larger role than events on the shared track. I feel most sorry for Bottas, he kept himself in a strategically strong position in the hope that the Baku destruction derby would deliver a safety car. I was beginning to feel he was starting to close the gap to Lewis, I hope this doesn't set him back too far - those two scrapping would be good. Baku has made it's mark on the calendar and the chances are the fastest driver wont win next year either but I'm looking forwards to it. Hope it doesn't rain ![]()

Afternoon team.
----------------------------------------Got 500,000 results :) Mostly due to all those very small units about a year ago. ![]() |

Well done Steve. Less than a week to go before the team hits 4000 years of run time.
----------------------------------------I've taken the decision to ramp my output right down, so I'll be dropping down the rankings fairly sharply. I lost my 8 thread work machine some time ago, thanks to an unsympathetic boss, and now I've decided to turn off the 3 cores on my server (in the interests of saving money). At some point I might bring 8 very low powered cores into the mix, if I get chance, which will be good for badges but that's about all.
