The PS2 port has a lower latency than USB since it is intterupt driven, which is better for gaming and some realtime applications.
----------------------------------------I would have reset the BIOS via the the CMOS Reset Jumper, or as a last resort, by removing the MB Battery. I would not have the patience to keep trying. I find Linux to be much better at handling multitasking, especially under load. Windows tends to have reponse lag under load, often with the file manager and disk access. ![]() |

Yes, I was about to resort to removing the CMOS battery. However, I was also battling 3 different USB sticks, only the last one of which would actually boot with the Windows 10 installer on it (which because I was using the MSDN multiple edition download, won't fit on a normal single-layer DVD).
----------------------------------------I'm only going back to Windows so that my partner can use the computer with fewer traumas and "support calls".

Nice one, well five!
----------------------------------------Been moving house and doing tonnes of DIY recently so not much time for WCG. We've moved from the flat which was primarily heated by a server, new place has gas so can't really justify running that thing anymore hence the drop-off in the last few months. Does anyone fancy a free 72core server for a crunching heater? You'll need to pick it up so probably only relevant to those local to London/Essex. I'm going to still try for top ten this year but with a lower power set-up, put together a Xeon 2648L desktop which is my current crunching rig, well that and a a bunch of android phones. Just getting a 2628L up and running now, should show up tomorrow - both ES jobs so slightly under retail spec but still with a bit of poke. Wishing you all well.
cheers,

If I could afford to run that server, I would have taken off your hands, as it is my wife says if the electric bill goes up anymore I will have to stop runing my desktop at night. Best not take it, would love it though.

It sounds like it might be handy for my office, in which case we could possibly pay for it.

What's the spec of the server, mac1 ? It sounds like it might be handy for my office, in which case we could possibly pay for it. It's a Dell C6100 with 4 nodes, each node carries 2 LGA1366 32nm CPU's and 8gb Ram One node has 2x L5638 Hex core CPU's (24 threads total) the other three have 2x L5630 Quad core CPU's (16 threads per node) In total it consumes ~600w the Hex core node about 30W more than the others. You could upgrade the quads to L5638's easily enough, very cheap on Ebay for pairs. Note I've downgraded the 4 x 60W fans to be more like 5w fans so you can't run heavy CPU's like X5675's as they would overheat. Easy enough to unsolder my resistors and crank them back up though - although you'd want it in your garage then they are ~70db in standard trim on full chat, as it stands it's the same noise as a workstation ~40db a huge difference. No drives but can take 12 SATA drives not that I ever had more than one per node - I actually had one running on a USB pen drive which was happy enough for 6 months. No payment required for Team UK members especially legends! It's just going to waste here, I'd be happy if it's crunching and keeping someone's house warm. Here's where I ordered it a year ago, this company is really good but you can get better deals from their ready made stuff on Ebay rather than their 'configurator'. http://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/dell-powered...-node-configure-to-order/

Good afternoon all
----------------------------------------mac1, I'm tempted to jump on a plane at this minute and come and pick it up. I certainly do not need the heating (unless I can plug it into the hot water system). Trouble would be the better half. We have just changed to 100% LED light bulbs in order to reduce the electricity consumption here (there are 10 lights that are on during the hours of darkness) and my irrigation pump draws about 400W for 7 hours during the night too. My monthly bill is around £100 so a 24/7 600W would kill me! I hope it goes to a good (WCG) home but if it is still around when I get solar power here then I'll be over.

Mac1, I have solar panels and can run it on sunny days, cannot run it from mains.
----------------------------------------Also I would need it to be delivered via courier, which I will pay for of course, it would cost about 400ukp for me to drive over as I'd have to get a ferry. If you don't get a better home for it, please consider mine. ![]() |

Taking a break from laying floorboards! Checking in with WCG - my new 2628L seems to be going alright, 66k points yesterday from 113w, and 60k at the noon cut today

Sure thing, actually whilst looking for a house I was nearly swayed by a less appropriate one which had a massive south facing roof ![]() 400quid for travel - wow!! it only cost me 174quid for the server(4 bare nodes), about 40quid for the 32gb memory and the processors were 11 a pair and maybe 25 for the hex ones. All delivered. Ah also the fans were a bit more too but not much. Still well under your travel costs. If no offer of someone picking it up in the next week then it's all yours. I might even have the original box somewhere.. @reduk "Tera-flop" that's awesome, I notice you passed the one million mark in results too -congrats!!!!

Thanks Andy,
----------------------------------------got a pair of E5-2680 v2 @ 2.80GHz 20 core / 40 thread servers which are averaging 21k credits per day each vs 29k credits for my AMD 6276 64 core dedicate cruncher so they're not too shabby |
