Re: Good morning everyone

Thanks guys, and congratulations to LH44. He beat Vettel fair and square, and great racing too.

Good morning all.
Is this going to be the last post before mifration to the cloud or can we assume that the forums will keep going?
Great win for LH44 at the weekend, somewhat of a boring race with the exception of LH44 and SV5. I find it hard to believe that with a 4 year old engine formula and cutting edge aerodynamics that HAM and VET lapped everyone with the exception of Daniel Riccardo in the Red Bull who was 75 seconds behind.

Evening all,
Is this going to be the last post before migration to the cloud or can we assume that the forums will keep going? Great win for LH44 at the weekend, somewhat of a boring race with the exception of LH44 and SV5. I find it hard to believe that with a 4 year old engine formula and cutting edge aerodynamics that HAM and VET lapped everyone with the exception of Daniel Riccardo in the Red Bull who was 75 seconds behind.

Looks like the site went down only for a few hours, lot's of comms deferred messages for me which will hopefully resolve themselves - but the forum's back up and running anyway.
I actually really enjoyed the race albeit I agree mainly for the championship leaders battling it out and perhaps also because I only saw the highlights. How tight was it after Vettel's stop for mediums though!? - with Hamilton bearing down the main straight - incredible to think after so many laps the two were side by side rubbing the paint off each others tyres. biggrin

Latest from the migration thread
Ok - quick update for everyone. First - if you see this message, then our IP address change has reached you and you are now seeing the website at our new home. Welcome! Second - we have copied the filesystems that you get files from and upload results to. As a result, we have been able to allow you to start uploading your completed result files to our servers. We have experience two issues so far that might have impacted our users: 1) Connections of any sort into the environment were very slow. We had a limit on our load balancer set too low. This would have caused backoffs when uploading files or it would have made the website seem painfully slow. We have fixed this. 2) The permissions for the download directory were not set correctly. This caused downloads to fail. This shouldn't affect too many people since we had stopped issuing new work several hours before anyone could have downloaded from the new servers. We are fixing this now and it will be fixed before we start sending out work. Overall things are going very smoothly and we are happy with the progress. We will update you further as we are able to start things up in the new environment.

Crunching wise I'm going to start winding things down for the summer now anyway, no need for so much heat in the flat - time for some low power crunching on android smile

Re: Good morning everyone

Good Morning All.
Has everyone migrated successfully?
It looks like they (IBM, BOINC, WCG) have now reduced the WU 'Holdings' back to 35 WUs per core. This means that the backlog will have to be cleared before any new work is sent. My Event Log is telling me now that tasks will not complete on time as it appears that the extra tasks sent had a duration twice as long as the previous WUs. I can see that I will have to keep an eye on progress otherwise I will be crunching for 'Nowt'. I have posted a query on both the SCC and BOINC Agent Support forums to see if any leeway will be given for (potentially) late results. If all else fails I will have to abort the extras to get my queue back in order.
Any comments?

Tom, Every time I have done that I have ended up with a disproportionate number of WUs that have the same end date. This can throw everything awry. With your crunching setup it must be a nightmare to administer as your queues must be enormous.

Not too bad Rod
I have in effect 8 machines, (2 servers) and just flip through them to not get new work. Then I went through them again 2 days later and allowed new work. There is not much of a queue because I have all machines set to 0.1 days additional work buffer as they are always connected to the net.

Ah - that explains it then. I am always set to 10 days work and 10 extra days. A legacy of when I was flitting back and forward to and from South America and there was no one at home to administer my machines. I am also always connected to the internet but it is so flakey here that I might find that it has auto switched off overnight (or for longer periods) and at least with a buffer I can retrieve (or at least not lose) WUs.
I assume that you realise that your next post will be number 1000. May I offer you congratulations in advance.
