Re: Good afternoon team

now I'm happy, thank you so much

Your Welcome.

After years of computing on a tight budget, I know a number of online stores to get things at a good price.

Re: Good afternoon team

Good morning all.

Ah you home build guys give me a twinge of jealousy, I have built my own machines back in the days of the single core 2.4GHz Intel chips but alas no more and certainly not here (thinking of upgrading my abacus though or perhaps even my slide rule). I used to go to a computer fair held monthly at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull for my bits and bobs - alas there is no such place here in Bolivia so I have to stick with my 3 MACs.

Presumably when you used to go to the computer fairs (which incidently I went to occasionally, living just round the M42 a bit) you only needed one mac, preferably plastic? Home build is for people who can't afford a Mac Pro smile

Re: Good afternoon team

Just to let you all know, My wife has just had her Brain Op (finally!!!, over a year and a half late!), and so being down to just my wages for an unspecified amount of time, my contribution to the Grid will be minimal (not including the fact that my i7-870 has just died on me and I don't have the money to fix it).

But as soon as possible, I'll be back, better than ever, I just don't have any clue when that will be (6 months minimum, based on avaerage healing time, but could be 2 years?).

Keep crunching cures Team and Good Health to all smile

Wishing a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with you.

Now Now Dave, You know better than that!

I'll benchmark my home built against any Mac with the same # of cores and will be many percentage points faster. And I don't like to overclock.

I always focus on reliability and efficiency. I've been buying Intel motherboards for a number of years, but they've withdrawn from the market, sadly. My home machines pretty much never blue screen, and are always virtually silent, even when running eight WCG threads. Even my i5-6600 server is inaudible under my desk, despite 4 mechanical hard drives and two case fans (it's probably quieter than the average NAS). For me, it's all about careful component selection.

I won't even dignify that with a response.

I agree completely. 7 HD's and a decent Graphcs card and 2 large 140mm fans keeping it all cool and it is barely audible. I have built machines for friends and family that are still running after a decade, all down to quality components and decent cooling.
I just upgraded my wifes computer, her HD was 11 years old and it is still running error free.
Wouldn't trust it now though.
