Sorry to hear abut your wife DarkmatterNI, For a short while I was on morphine and antibiotics at the same time and things all got very weird, at times I could not tell dreams from reality.

One and a half years to wait for an operation must seem like an eternity, I hope it's a lot sooner.

Yes DC both Jasper Carrot and Billy Connolly were influential but my main sources of musical comedy and more serious songs were Fred Wedlock and Hamish Imlach both now sadly gone. The latter I did get to meet (and perform with) when I was working at Dounreay Nuclear Power Station for 6 months in 1970. A mountain of a man (27 stone) but with the lightest touch on a guitar (when he wasn't on the Whisky). Many famous artists claim support and inspiration from him and there was an excellent documentary called 'Acoustic Routes' where he made a brief appearance. Fred Wedlock was a West Country entertainer who wrote most of his own material and still brings tears of laughter to my eyes even though I have heard all of his 11 CDs many times.

Yes Rod, I remember Fred Wedlock but I've never heard of Hamish Imlach. I was a big fan of Jasper Carrot in his prime. Sadly he never had enough material to cope with regular TV exposure, and so he went downhill once he became more famous (in my unqualified opinion).
