That file still only has HCC. For HFCC, there would be another set of instructions just as long with references to the files that HFCC uses to crunch.

@Bearcat- No, that will not work for GPU only. That app_info is for GPU and CPU HCC tasks. Below is what you need for GPU tasks only. Make sure your profile @ WCG for this cruncher is set to receive no CPU tasks.
----------------------------------------<app_info> <app> <name>hcc1</name> <user_friendly_name>Help Conquer Cancer</user_friendly_name> </app> <file_info> <name>wcg_hcc1_img_6.56_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>hcckernel.cl.6.56</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>hcc1</app_name> <version_num>656</version_num> <platform>windows_intelx86</platform> <plan_class>ati_hcc1</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>1.0</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>1.0</max_ncpus> <coproc> <type>ATI</type> <count>.25</count> </coproc> <file_ref> <file_name>wcg_hcc1_img_6.56_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>hcckernel.cl.6.56</file_name> <open_name>hcckernel.cl</open_name> </file_ref> </app_version> </app_info> To change the amount of tasks you want to run simultaneously change the <count>.25</count> parameter. .25 is for 4 tasks. .50 is for 2. .33 is for 3. Once you place the file in your WCG project folder do any editing without removing the file from the projects folder. You'll need to stop and restart boinc for the changes to take effect. DO NOT remove the app_info file from the project folder if you have tasks that are still in your cache. You'll lose them. if you want to return to 1 tasks just change the <count>.25</count> parameter to 1. You will not be able to run WCG CPU tasks on this cruncher with this app_info in the projects folder.

OK, great. thanks allot. Will give this a shot shortly.
----------------------------------------On another note, Whats the tell sign the graphics card is going bad? My 6950 whines a bit when I turn up the fans. I cannot get this thing to work in my other rig. Have done everything you said to do. It looks to try to draw allot of power when it tries to kick in, then kicks the driver (with the fix in it). The PSU is a 750 corsair bronze rated but its about 4 years old. Its just crunching HFCC now and doesn't seem to have any flickering going on but definately flicks when trying to crunch GPU. Is this card going bad?

There is no way to really know if a card is going bad but from my experience you usually start to get screen artifacts or a grey screen when it's starting to go bad. You can seriously reduce your card's power consumption by down clocking the memory. I go down at least 50% on mine. If Windows is still trying to stop and reset the driver even with the reg fix then the only other suggestion I have is to disable Aero. A good dusting with some compressed air if needed might also help.
----------------------------------------One other thing I should have mentioned if you don't already know is when starting from scratch with the app_info file let boinc download some GPU tasks before you put the app_info file into the WCG project directory.

I cannot unselect all cpu projects. Get a red message stating I have to select one so will select HCC. Also, do I need "send work if none available"? Getting ready to try now.

Its WORKING!!!!!
----------------------------------------![]() Thanks Nano. Currently crunching 3 with around 2:30 to complete. Will give it a day before trying 4. Also dropped from around 350 watts to around 265 watts. Should have a new rig in by next month to make it a dedicated GPU dual card cruncher and leave my 24 thread crunchers to do grunt work on CPU wu's. Since the board has 2 x16 but one is at x8, anyone know if I will hit some kind of bottleneck on the x8 PCI-E slot?

I cannot unselect all cpu projects. Get a red message stating I have to select one so will select HCC. That can be a little confusing since they don't give a separate choice for HCC GPU. Also, do I need "send work if none available"? Getting ready to try now. If you have the advanced settings on your grid page set to receive no CPU work then the "send work if none available"? won't matter. I leave it unchecked. Glad you got it working. Post some numbers in a few days. Just to tease you here's what my 7970 did yesterday. ![]() 10/26/2012 0:007:19:16:43 921,772 3,958 That's running 8 WUs at a time. ![]() Since the board has 2 x16 but one is at x8, anyone know if I will hit some kind of bottleneck on the x8 PCI-E slot? That's a good question. My guess would be the higher end cards may suffer a little due to bandwidth available on the x8 slot but I'm only guessing. Maybe someone with more gaming experience may know but I think if you run 2 cards, 1 in an x16 and 1 in an x8 they both default to x8 but that may only be in a CF configuration which you don't want to do.

You had to show me that. Now am wondering if I shouldn't have broken a few piggy banks to stretch for the 7970. ![]()

I just started playing with a 7870 today, tomorrow I play with the 7970.
As far as the x16, x8, ... issue, I have seen many posts for Folding@home that say you will only see a reduction in performance below x4. Some have even tested this. I would imagine the same holds true for this project. |
