[We are watching our boinc manager and measuring the elapsed time, not something as superficial and unreliable as GPU kernel time, rofl. I know perfectly well that you are not measuring GPU kernel time, since that does not support your argument (whatever it is). |

I know perfectly well you have no idea what you are talking about. Even if I were to average kernel times, it comes out to 2.36 seconds of kernel time per work unit, which completely tears through your numbers. I think you need to go back and fix your math.

That is not what another with your card has posted. Are you looking at the right number? https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,34020_offset,0#395705 |

@ mmstick,. yes sry i opend a new thread some hours ago @ GPU Support Forum, that was the better place. In there was more info. But, i installed Win7 right now, so the XP installation is already formated and i cant try anything anymore. For summary, dont try to run OpenCL Apps with HD7xxx on XP. It will not work, ATI restricted it hardly, and i tried really some variants to get it running.

Didn't I tell you those numbers were a bunch of BS? But nooo, you didn't listen. You think a bunch of computer illiterates know how to fully utilize and measure the speed of their cards?
----------------------------------------There is only one 'total kernel time' in the result log, so it can't be wrong. You can't simply run one work unit and call that a day, you need to run multiple work units or else the graphics card will be sitting there doing nothing all the day and the GPU load won't ever go much beyond 30% for any extended amount of time. Running 8 work units I can make sure I keep a 92% usage 80% of the time. [Edit 1 times, last edit by mmstick at Oct 17, 2012 3:05:47 PM] |

because XP left more Hardware free for crunching ;) And XP costs nothing for me ^^ (Specialy when your using 10+ PCs for crunching it is expensive enough to hold PCs half up to date to crunch every new Application that comes out in science Area). Win7 i had to take a new prof. licence now.

Actually, at that point you are better off running Linux, it uses significantly less hardware than XP, and is optimized for all types of hardware. However, you need to run the latest Windows if you want to run GPU projects well, since there are better GPU/OpenCL drivers on Windows currently. This might be a bit different now, last time I tried Linux OpenCLing with my 7950 in diablominer was six months ago. It ran the diablominer well back then, but 7xxx's features were not fully supported at the time.

Running 8 work units I can make sure I keep a 92% usage 80% of the time. You keep avoiding the issue of kernel time and bring in the other factors, just as you like to include CPU in your measurements to mask the effect of the GPU. But the whole point of the GPU performance discussion is to discuss the GPU performance. If you want to add more work units, or stagger the tasks, or buy a faster CPU you can do that with any of them. But it is even stranger that you used Bitcoin for your calculations above, which has nothing to do with this project, and yet you don't believe in actual measurements on cards in this project. Why bother with numbers at all? You can just dream them up in your spare time. |

Not all projects run properly under linux, dont ask me now what exactly but im reading in many Project Forums. AND, i have absolut now idea about Linux when i read Documents about how to install BOINC on it ;) Not to speak about troubleshooting ^^. And no im not always used windows only, until 2002 i used AmigaOS that based on Unix in a way ;) But i know Linux is little better then XP but they was close.
