sergej.......unless you can see the future your reply is full of assumptions. Vaio Would it help to advise you that we have only had two occasions where the Forums were down since the inception of this project The first time lasted 6 hours The second lasted 2 hours and only affected the Forums and not the return of completed Work Units That is not bad considering we have been processing Work Units here for 240 Days or 5760 Hours, that = 0.14% downtime I bet Grid.org wish they has a record like that According to the read only's there have been two instances of server downtime this month, albeit quickly resolved. Just an observation.....at least the servers here seem (so far) to come back up ![]() |

Morning All
----------------------------------------As a long time UDer and first time WCGer, I'm currently in the process of weighing up the differences between the two and as mousie says, the agent is very similar to the UD agent (and in fact is called ud.exe). The infrastructure behind the two projects are also based on commercial objectives, although grid.org is a not-for-profit organisation it is backed by United Devices, a commercial business which relies on results for its profit and reputation. It seems clear that if UD has the funding and backing of IBM then the two projects would not have much difference. Vaio also makes a good point that WCG is relatively new and that the member base is significantly smaller at present - believe me, with well over a million members, it took me a little longer than a day to break into the top 70,000 over at Grid.org! At the moment I'm torn with my loyalites, the fact that I've been crunching for grid for over 4 years (I've included my stats below for reference), that I've contributed to a number of teams and have made a number of "virtual" friends on the forums over there, makes me feel a significant amount of loyalty to the project. However, the fact that all indications are that the cancer units are not producing any new data and the HPF units may not even be coming home to mamma has made me test the water over here... and it's a good temperature for me I must say! (I'm also under pressure from my employer to run WCG over UD) I'm gonna crunch here until things get back to rights on UD and then I'll see how it goes. I have enough machines that maybe I'll split my effort and crunch for both?! ![]() |

I'm gonna crunch here until things get back to rights on UD and then I'll see how it goes. I have enough machines that maybe I'll split my effort and crunch for both?! Firstly, let me welcome you to WCG. I hope that you will find it a friendly place as grid.org and that you can make some more virtual friends. Regarding your ability to crunch for both sides, this is a good thing if you (or your employer) has the spare capacity. It helps both efforts out and in doing so, will help mankind in general. If one of the operations "fails", then you can switch to the other and the spare cycles will not be lost. |

Hi Stares - Thanks for the Welcome
----------------------------------------If one of the operations "fails", then you can switch to the other and the spare cycles will not be lost. That's why I thought I'd best pop over here at the moment. My CPU was getting a bit chilly! ![]() |

I'm also under pressure from my employer to run WCG over UD Gordoma -- Let me also extend my greetings and welcome you to the WCG. You might want to look at the information regarding partnerships with the WCG at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/our_partners.html and https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewBecomePartner.do. Your employer might gain more than the satisfaction of having contributed to humanity through partnering. Good crunching to ya, |

To all those that want to know, Ud is back up and running sort of...They have major problems over there and need to take a step back and decide what is important....I also am one of those Ud crunchers who decided that enough is enough, crunching valid data is the important thing...

All I can say is that with all the defections from UD, vaio's JTS2 team will be climbing up the ranks very quickly.
