sergej.......unless you can see the future your reply is full of assumptions. Vaio Would it help to advise you that we have only had two occasions where the Forums were down since the inception of this project The first time lasted 6 hours The second lasted 2 hours and only affected the Forums and not the return of completed Work Units That is not bad considering we have been processing Work Units here for 240 Days or 5760 Hours, that = 0.14% downtime I bet Grid.org wish they has a record like that |

That is good to hear....but it does not negate my initial reply.
Oh...and at the moment we count the uptime rather than the downtime ![]() |

at the same time, as far as i know....grid.org and wcg results for the human proteome project all more or less go into the same basket. grid.org is not some completely unsupported organization....they have oxford and nfcr. also, grid.org is run by united devices itself, not by ibm...so when issues arise with the software, it's ud that comes out to try and fix it. sure, grid.org didn't come up with it itself....i think it's been explained as a nonprofit branch of ud, or something of the sort. so if the problem is being caused on the ud end, and you guys are using ud software....one can only put 2 and 2 together....
also...with recent issues, the reason provided for cancer units not correctly working is they've crunched through all the data. not sure if in wcg's 240 days of existence, that has happened yet, to cause a problem. i'm not normally this defensive of grid.org, especially as of late with recent issues, but there are things that need to be clarified. on another note...colors are a personal preference... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

To be fair, I don't think we need grid members coming over and joining and then never actually returning anything - just being a terribly disruptive influence on certainteam captains

To an extent it is all moot anyway....as I imagine most people at grid got involved for the Cancer research project....and I don't see that here.
The more projects to choose from the better ![]() |

yep on the cancer thing...new people join all the time and post saying they joined to run the cancer project, trying to figure out how to turn off the human proteome project.
VAIO...lol. see the linux thread, i did try... ![]() if you really wanna test the waters to see how people respond to suggesting they try wcg, now would be the best time while servers are down...just fair warning that you may not get the most positive response. |

......but as mousie says....a lot more people visit the boards when things go pear shaped so you'll have the audience

I quit UD Grid for the reason give in this thread.
----------------------------------------http://forum.grid.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=15271&highlight=treading+water "Treading Water. See my post on Dec 24 2004 which says" I joined this UD project 11 May 2002. Since then I have accumulated over 18 years of CPU time and turned in over 37,000 results. Currently I am running 12 nice sized computers. Most of them are used exclusively for crunching; all run the agent 24x7 365. Since May 2002, I have been ignored and yanked around ….e.g. had smallpox automatically added to my profile by Grid.org etc. I tolerated this even though I know of others that have quietly quit UD due to these heavy handed tactics. Now a group of volunteers has figured out the latest (known) of these manipulations. UD has knowingly perpetrated a ruse and wasted the last 4 months of my computers and prevented them from being used in the search for the cure for other diseases. If you add it up, that is about 4 computer years. If one looks at the number of computers that Grid.org has prevented from working on real problems for these 4 months, it must be staggering. Think about it; your son or granddaughter may die because a new drug will be made available 4 months too late. Why did they do it? I cannot think of any justifiable reason to do such a thing and they have failed to respond to all questions about it for three weeks now. It is for this latest indignity that I have moved my computational capability to another medical project. While this particular deception may be over soon, as the most honorable professor at Oxford indicated it should be, you can never be sure when the next sham will start; if it has not already. I know that many, if not all, of you are willing to tolerate this behavior in the hopes that progress will soon be made; I wish you the very best success on this and all other projects. I however, find it unconscionable, irresponsible and intolerable and so it is with sadness that I bid you volunteers, the real contributors and “good guys”, a fond goodbye. “Over and Out” Obviously that "Other Medical Project" is WCG. At least so far, the folks running this Distributed Computing Project (WCG) have been up-front and honest in every dealing (as far as I can tell). That is not the case with Grid.org So, if you are looking for a reason to belong to one or the other, I hope you find one. I certainly did ![]() |
