Upward Trend in Returned Results?

I think I see an upward trend in returned results. This last weekend was up several thousand more returned results than the previous weekend and today Monday July 18 was the first time that 50,000 returned results has been exceeded since June 22nd. Anyone else see a trend or is this my imagination?

Re: Upward Trend in Returned Results?

smile yes, i too have seen this little-positive-up swing. but i have a feeling its only a blip on the radar and not a trend. i say this only becuase WCG has done nothing to promote this project or incourage new users to come online. Hense theres no real foundation for an increase in crunching hours. Basically theres no hype around this project anymore like there is at folding@home(thats unfortunate).

Re: Upward Trend in Returned Results?

I do think this initiative is being promoted. It's not being reported and things aren't being explained but I do think alot of activity is taking place behind the scenes. I think the philosophy of the sponsor and admins is more like the Nike philosophy of 'Just do it!' rather than talk about it. I am aware of some of the marketing which is taking place and I've gone ahead and personally become involved in it because I felt the same way about it that you did, that is, didn't think enough was being done to promote it. Since I was going out on my own trying and contacting different companies about this initiative I started to 'bump heads' with those already out there and I found out a little about what's already going on.

Re: Upward Trend in Returned Results?

I'm not sure exactly how widespread it is, but I think it's fairly widespread (US at least), but a week or two ago IBM started automatically downloading the agent to all employee's PC's (as opposed to simply asking them to join). So there definitely is a one-time up-tick in the number of users caused by many IBMers joining. The team I am a member of which is made up of IBMers at my site, suddenly jumped from about 50 members to close to 70 as a result.

Lance --

Glad to hear that it is automatically distributed to everyone now. There is quite a bit of horsepower out there among all the IBM'ers. Our best days still were back in the January -- March timeframe. That was when SlashDot came on board and when Graham of MyOnlineTeam got some press for the project on the BBC. Absolute best day: March 1, 2005; 14,708,393 points; 82,396 results returned. Love to see us get back up there and grow from there!

Best Regards,

Well I believe they still have to take a step to sign up (I'm not exactly sure what it looks like because I installed the agent myself after reading about it). Obviously they need to pick a username, etc. But it appears that many have in fact done so. And, the software is at least on the machine, waiting to be run!
