Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

I agree that WCG not recommending such big caches are for many good technical reasons as posted on this topic. Now do I want to see others work blow out? No. I like many others would like to see all the WUs get done on time and done effeciently since it helps this project and others get done as soon as possible to help make the world a better place to live with few problems - be they environmental or medical.

Now I happen to have my cache at 5 days. This is partically because I work in a location where I may be running my laptop (a quad core) as much as 14 hours w/o any connections to the internet and sometimes this situation can go more than 24 hours if I'm not able to reconnect to an internet source at night. While I've been doing that this week, I've had days where I've crunched 40-50+ CFSW WUs in one run without the ability to upload/download. Thus to keep my laptop busy, I need to maintain a fairly large cache to keep things crunching. Those with access to the internet 24/7 are obviously in a position to run a smaller cache (or none at all) and still get all the WUs they need to keep their CPUs busy.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

I hope, the upload is running before the grace period runs out.

I have bigger caches because I don't have a 24/7 network all the time and now a lot of waiting WUs uploads here are older than 10 days.

After an extended outage, the techs will generally turn off the too late part of the validation. No guarantees, but it is possible and they have done so in the past.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

Although CFSW is not in the list for which they are able to distribute new work, it appears it should have been and they just made an error by not including it. We have certainly had problems with CFSW recently but hopefully they will start sending new work fairly soon. All the WUs waiting to upload and report have now been successful do I'm just waiting for new work for two computers.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

It's been going back and forth between "no work available" and my being able to get work units. It looks as if work is there, but not enough to keep up with the demand as everyone is trying to fill back up.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

Yeah! I have got new work for my laptop. I will assume the same is true for the other computers as well. I did change my cache on the laptop from zero to 0.5 days so I won't run out of WUs so quickly when there is a problem.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

Well I got a trickle of some new CFSW WUs - maybe 5 new ones tonight and all were fixes. Tried to force a few more, but nothing else in the well. Sure hope there will be some more put into the well soon or it looks like I'm not going to make it to that gold badge and end up falling maybe 7-8 days short. I still have some backlog to finish up from this past week's downloads, but if the trickle continues, I'll be bone dry before the weekend is out. Such is life....
