Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

Hmmmm.......CFSW well may be starting to go dry. Just sent 29 completed WUs to validation and got only 2 new WUs downloaded for new work and they are due in a couple days. I'll be connected on the internet now for 8-10 hours straight now, so I'll guess I'll have to wait and see if another round of WUs get tossed into the queue for me to download.... sad

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

Ingleside is doing a Jack Jones of Walmington-on-Sea ;>). The results do not show the returns have increased by any sizable number, well that is, sometime after midnight the system went down... nothing up/downloading (See Known Issues forum). The 10 day validations have been:

21st 219,325
22nd 217,307
23rd 221,100
24th 219,077
25th 199,409
26th 134,347 Bad batches start taking toll
27th 88,010 Project suspended
28th 151,367 Resume
29th 217,549 Full flow
30th 250,771 (The Pending Verification Wave)

Can't see there coming back more (yet)... buffers saturating soon?

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

It sure looks like things are really stuck on the uploads/downloads. Good thing I've got a backlog of SFSW WUs to crunch on or I would be like a bunch of crunchers probably pulling out my hair about now with my queues running dry. Continue to crunch along, though I've not had anything new download to run on for a good 12 hours now. Sure hope the techs manage to get those upload/download servers fixed soon and not have a second long weekend to work through....

Last look at my stats show me 18 days short of gold, but I've probably have a couple days worth in pending validation and a couple days worth in my crunching queue right now, so I'm probably overall about 10-12 days short of the promise land and that gold standard .... still crunching for the finish line.... biggrin

At the opposite end, those with a very large cache (9.5 - 10 days, I'm sure that there'll be some), will probably also be pulling their hair out, as there's a chance that they won't be able to get their work back in time... Oh, what joy...

Good luch techs.

Well ... even those guys with a large cache will report their results as soon as the up- and download servers will be back in action. They may be over time but they will (hopefully) report in before the replacement WUs are send out.
Just my thoughts.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

If they are running near 10 days on the cache, they probably have a bunch of WUs in high priority mode needing to make deadlines today that won't make it in time. I know when I pushed my queue to even 8 days earlier this week to pick up a bunch of CFSW WUs to crunch 24/hr a day, I was finding I was getting too many WUs going into panic high priority mode and they were then running my laptop too hot and I had to back off. If a bunch of clean up WUs pop up this weekend, I'll be ready to catch at least a few of them since I figure I need another 200 or so WUs to make my gold badge.

We'll all know in another 12 hours or so when the techs manage to get things cleaned up and the uploads/downloads running again....

astrolabe, that is certainly not what I meant - and this is a perfect example of where something taken out of context can have a totally different meaning than when in context.

WCG does NOT recommend that people have such a large cache where issues similar to this, could cause challenges in being able to return work in time. If someone has deliberately chosen to have a cache of 9.5/10 days, then I'm disappointed for them that there's a chance that work which they have crunched, may not get back home in time. Hopefully, the techs will resolve this issue as quickly and cleanly as possible, then work can be returned before new WU's for overdue tasks are generated (even if they're sent out and subsequently 'Server aborted', it adds strain/inefficiencies to the system).
