Your GPU must be compatible minimum OpenCL 1.0 and Compute Capability minimum 1.2 My GT 520 meets those requirements -- it has OpenCL 1.1 and Compute Capability 2.1. So why is it not supported??? |

I do not know, the smallest GPU which I saw crunching is Nvidia GT430 . Look here for the comparisons of performance. The 520 is much slower than the 430. |

I wonder if it is sharing time with other projects swapping between them waaay too often? |

Hi mikey159b
----------------------------------------Understood The point is though that on GPUGrid I don't have any issues with crunching on the GPU On WCG with the same settings it's stuttering and making my PC unusable - for instance while watching TV in Media Centre - this would be considered PC idle by the BOINC app. The process itself needs to throttle it's GPU usage (much like the laptop saving default 60% CPU setting) either that or a change in the priority settings for the task - all other projects run at the same level as the system idle task and are kicked into touch by anything else running on your PC ...immediately At the moment GPUGrid has 85% of my GPU and that remaining 15% is more than sufficient to handle any graphics challenges I might throw it's way - and everyone is happy. On WCG it is taking up to 100% of the GPU and causing the stalling/stuttring effect. One of the best things about the Grid has always been that it is invisible to the end user - you don't know it's there but the science just gets done. It's better to have 85% of something rather than 100% of nothing. It needs sorting before going full time otherwise there will be quite a backlash and an ongoing forum support headache Just my Beta Trial feedback Dave |

I can only speak on two things that may be in action here:
1) GPUgrid's app actually would be running at a higher percentage of your GPU, if it weren't on W7 (I don't know if yours is, but W7 "throttles" OR does not play nice with their app. This is why many on GPUgrid use XP or Linux, so they can get a higher utilization of their GPU. AS FAR AS I KNOW, they're not doing it on purpose. 2) GPUgrid uses Cuda, while this is OpenCl. Personally, I agree with you. The stuttering is too much for me for my main computer, which is why I intend to buy an AMD for one of my rigs for WCG. I do not plan on using an NVIDIA GPU for their project. When I asked people who use AMD cards if their CPU is using a full core full throttle throughout entire app, they replied no. It uses what its supposed to. This is not knreed's fault, it's NVIDIAs. Apparently, at least from what I've read, when an NVIDIA app runs OpenCl, this is what happens. I do not plan on wasting additional CPU resources and electricity when it's not needed. Whether or not AMDs GPU are getting the full 100% and stuttering, I cannot say. BUT, this may be like how BOINC uses CPUs, in the fact that it's an all or nothing situation, and if it were to throttle up and down, as BOINC handles CPU %'s, the stuttering would still be intermittent I WOULD THINK (I do not know for sure though) |

Hi 5pot
----------------------------------------Thanks for the feedback - my main box is on Win7 and it's the Nvidia Card using Cuda31 over at GPUGrid. It uses about 20% of 1 Core and 85% of the graphics card. |

David, what driver version are you using?

My box is ::: I7 - 4.4 ,with an AMD 1 gig. 6850 I don't see any work being done on my GPU. I've had about 20 tasks only for the GPUs shown below.... Not too many available yet. crunching, crunching, crunching. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-core Processor with Windows 11 64 Pro. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor with Windows 11 64 Pro (part time) |
