1.2 is what is required for Nvidia gpu's to work. Just to make sure, you did put a check mark in your preferences for your profile here at WCG and verified you checked participate in BETA? Seems weird if this is done that you didnt get any or your message log isnt showing the request for gpu wu's.

Jim, your driver seems later than mine. When I upgraded to the latest driver all my GPU tasks on Collatz and Milkyway errored out, so I had to drop back to the earlier version for them to work. Yes, I am pretty familiar with the driver problem, having gone around the block a few times with it for Folding@home. The 295 and 296 drivers are the problem, but the 290.53 beta works fine for folding, and should work fine here. Thanks for checking.EDIT: Actually, it is the CUDA version that is the problem. CUDA 4.10 is OK, but the 4.20 version included with the later driver package produces errors when the monitor is set to power down. Nvidia has been notified, but feel free to bug them again on it in their forum. I don't know that they are putting much emphasis on fixing it yet. http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=...ew=findpost&p=1383047 There have been a few more CPU requests in the log since my last post, but no GPU requests yet. My guess at the moment is that it is somehow a holdover from my BOINC installation as a service, and I will bite the bullet and reset the project to hopefully clear it out and start over. Even resetting the project did not fix it; it just re-downloaded the projects that had been aborted, and proceeded as before but without requesting any GPU tasks.
----------------------------------------HOWEVER: I completely uninstalled BOINC, and most importantly, deleted the BOINC folder, and rebooted (doing a registry clean for good measure). Then, upon re-installation of BOINC, I now see in the log: Requesting new tasks for NVIDIA. So I think I am over the hump (though I didn't get any betas this time). My Message log states - 17/03/2012 06:02:52 NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GT 430 (driver version 28562, CUDA version 4010, compute capability 2.1, 1024MB, 179 GFLOPS peak) There were NO Nvidia gpu beta units this time around. Runs 1 thru 3 are complete, this is all in the other thread: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,32806 ![]() ![]() |

Go to messages in boinc, scroll to the top and look for around the 13th line where boinc recognizes your card. Should show what CAL version along with other info of your card. If it show 1.4 or higher, it should be working. Been deciding if I should install my 5670 in my other cruncher. If and when you do get one, can you post time crunched? Thanks Bearcat -- I checked, and it said: 3/15/2012 4:30:39 PM ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD5x00 series (Redwood) (CAL version 1.4.696, 1024MB, 620 GFLOPS peak) I will let you know when and if I receive any, but so far I have only received the dsfl betas. Hmmm just noticed another line: 3/15/2012 4:31:01 PM don't use GPU while active Wonder how you change that -- didn't see it in preferences. lp |

Hello littlepeaks,
----------------------------------------I am still learning about GPU myself. Looking at My Grid - Device Manager - (Selected Profile), here is all that seems to apply: Processor Usage Do work while computer is in use? YES Do work only after computer is idle for: 3 minutes [Not used because of above YES] Do work while computer is running on batteries? NO Stop work after computer is idle for: 0 minutes Suspend work if CPU usage is above 0 % of cpu If you set this value to 0, it means no restriction is enforced. This setting is used version 6.10.30+ of the BOINC agent. Lawrence Added: Dataman's answer sounds like a good way to insert a NO to GPU use while active. I was concentrating on the website. Added: Yes!! The BOINC Manager Advanced - Preferences has a 3rd line added under Processor Usage. It has a check box labelled 'Use GPU while computer is in use' and by default it is unchecked - which means NO. This is ugly since the website does not show cognizance of the GPU. But then, GPU is in Beta not in Primetime.[Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 17, 2012 3:55:11 PM] |

What BOINC version? In 6.12.34 you must allow GPU processing when active. I think the default is unchecked but I have not had enough tea yet.

Thanks for your replies Dataman and Lawrencehardin.
Aha -- I checked in Boinc under "Activity" and changed my selection from "GPU based on preferences" to "Use GPU always". All other settings are as recommended by your replies. Dataman, I am running Boinc version 6.10.58, because I believe this is still the version WCG recommends. lp |
