So far I haven't been able to grab a single GPU beta. I have 2 laptops with GPUs, one with a GTX 260M (CC 1.1) and another with a GT 330M (CC 1.2). I think I have all options selected, and both laptops have crunched for Collatz before (probably some Einstein and SETI GPUs also).

There's no way to assess since no work availability for beta does not give a warning message. Consider the supply as limited.

I have a question. Is there some kind of "ban list" of devices with non-supported GPU card? Yesterday I've installed a new Radeon 7950 card instead of old non-supported one but still did not get any GPU work. The 1st run of the Beta units is complete and they are doing the compiling and re-running the last units. After they figure out what they need to do next they will send out another set of units, but no word on when yet. ![]() ![]() |

Been looking at my log and see something kind of weird. Usually, when requesting wu's, boinc will ask for CPU wu's then GPU wu's. Mine hasn't asked for any GPU wu's since late yesterday. Has asked and received many CPU wu's though.
----------------------------------------Question: does boinc know when WCG flips the switch to release beta GPU's and tells our local machines to start asking? I did upgrade my drivers a couple days ago to 12.2 for AMD cards. Someone posted in another thread that they had issues of boinc not recognizing there card after updating, but mine does.
Crunching for humanity since 2007!

GPU and CPU have separate schedulers in the client. If there's buffer space for CPU tasks it will ask for them. As noted previous by knreed it is not a requirement to AND select HCC AND GPU on the device profile to get GPU Beta's. What is required is selecting GPU AND the Beta program [separate My Grid page]. If only interested to get GPU beta of WCG, then select an intermittent science as DDDT (phase 1) and GPU on the device profile. If you wish to get production GPU HCC, then atm you have to select HCC AND GPU which means your device will get a mix of CPU and GPU tasks for that science [if available in the feeder].
----------------------------------------edit: And to answer the key question, the Beta feeder queue is always polled if work is available [silently]. It has a higher priority in the feeder hierarchy. It wont tell if there's none nor if the Beta feeder is active. --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 16, 2012 2:18:26 PM] |

Amd, Nvidia and CPU is separate resource-types, any unsuccessful work-request for a resource-type will lead to this resource-type getting a wait-period before asks for more work. This wait-period is random within some limits, there the limits is doubled for each unsuccess request in a row. Meaning, after a few failed GPU-request it can take many hours before client would want to re-ask for more GPU-work. The limits is removed if successfully gets work for resource-type, if client finish a task with the specific resource-type, or if user manually hits update. ![]() "I make so many mistakes.
