As noted in my original reply to the Hypernova question, the option is now called "Protected Application Execution", not service. It is not necessarily default selected. On upgrade it will though be remembered what way the previous install took place. See FAQ: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28971 for screenshots of various version installs.
To change something from running as service to user app there's a whole lot more to change than a config file. The purpose of installing as PAE is exactly as the name indicate... Protected. Installing as user gives up a little but of the enhanced [windows] security. --//-- |

Also something to remember once it's no longer installed as a service - if the computer reboots, you must log in as the user with the BOINC install before it will start crunching again. Automatic Windows updates are notorious for rebooting your computer and it will be idle until someone logs in again.

you will need to uninstall, then reinstall boinc. But pay attention so when it asks to install as a service, you click NO! Had to do this before. Yeah it sucks. I've been through that myself today, and making the re-installed version work wasn't as trivial as I'd hoped. I install from an admin account but want to run as a standard user (all this with BOINC 6.10.58 on Win7 64bit). Despite ticking the "Allow all users on this computer to control BOINC" box, I could not make it run under the standard user account. I had to add the User to the boinc-users and boinc-admins Groups (under Administrative Tools, Computer Management) before it would do so.The good news was that GPU tasks were then being requested. The bad news was that my GTS 250 was deemed incompatible - compute capability 1.1 only ![]() |

Hi,
----------------------------------------I have a few questions which may or may been answered already(sorry if they have) 1 - BOINC minimum version? Currently using 7.0.3 2 - My card is an ATI HD5450. Is there a minimum driver required? Currently on 12.2 My 4 GPU betas ended with immediately error out with an - exit code -1073741515 (0xc0000135). Same with a few primegrid one's I tested. In the past this card worked with POEM but now I can't get any POEM GPU tasks. Specs: AMD Athlon II X2 4450e OC'ed at 3.6GHZ AMD HD 5450 OC'ed at 820MHZ core clock(from 650MHZ) with temps at 41 celsius while idle Windows XP SP3 fully updated EDIT: Lol I solved it!! 16-03-2012 20:40:20 | | OpenCL: ATI GPU 0: Cedar (driver version CAL 1.4.1664, device version OpenCL 1.1 AMD-APP-SDK-v2.5 (793.1), 1024MB) 16-03-2012 20:40:20 | | ATI GPU is OpenCL-capable I had to install the AMD APP SDK and those two lines above appeared in BOINC and the Primegrid WU's started to progress ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 1 times, last edit by Falconet at Mar 16, 2012 8:44:31 PM] |

1. No upgrade requirement from 6.10.58 for the WCG GPU implementation, not even for the ATI/AMD.
----------------------------------------2. Pass -1073741515 does not show on the internet. BSD reported same error in this thread. Also reported once in this thread of 2009 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,24909_offset,0#221876 edit: See the edit-in of resolution. Maybe this is a commonality for this exit code. Others would have to try if not installed. --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 16, 2012 8:47:52 PM] |

Suggest you upgrade boinc to the recommended version for your OS. Your a bit behind. Kneed posted a list here for GPU cut for the second round here... http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,32825 , but looks like your safe provided open CL meets 1.4, which you can verify in your messages in boinc. If you had errors, your card might not be capable.
----------------------------------------Ooops, meant downgrade.

I might downgrade to 6.10.58 after finishing all tasks I have so that they don't get lost. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

FYI I've been beating the WCG web site to death
----------------------------------------https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyMemberPage.do after signing in to get the device manager to set Boinc to 75% so I'd have one free thread open for the GPU... well the place to do it is in Boinc itself goto ADVANCED > PREFERENCES > (second line from the bottom) ON MULTIPROCESSOR SYSTEMS, USE AT MOST (percentage)% OF THE PROCESSORS. Dataman gave me the tip to confirm what I suspected but I wanted more wu from the unused threads in an i5 Dataman "You can run them the way your are set up now or you can idle one thread and use it exclusively for GPU. Most people are reporting that idleing one thread improves performace for both the GPU and CPU wu's. You can use the 3 CPU threads for any project you choose." I previously posted in the wrong group noob [Edit 1 times, last edit by brucegaylord at Mar 17, 2012 1:18:49 AM] |
