Re: Lead time for GPU beta

When I checked to make sure my device profile was set up to run the beta I noticed that it was reset to run all projects (except clean energy) vice only HFCC and HCC which I had set. I reset the profile and now I get the followinf:

3/13/2012 11:33:26 AM | World Community Grid | Reporting 3 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks
3/13/2012 11:33:29 AM | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed
3/13/2012 11:33:44 AM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
3/13/2012 11:33:44 AM | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for ATI GPU
3/13/2012 11:33:47 AM | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
3/13/2012 11:33:47 AM | World Community Grid | No tasks sent
3/13/2012 11:33:47 AM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Fight Childhood Cancer
3/13/2012 11:33:47 AM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Help Conquer Cancer
3/13/2012 11:33:47 AM | World Community Grid | Tasks are committed to other platforms

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

How can I see if my GPU is not allowed to have any tasks - is there a specific message or nothing at all?

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

Just crunched one.
Took four mins on gtx 570
Took longer cpu side beginning and end than the gpu crunching bit (if that makes sense:)
Hyperthreading quad with all threads working on normal wcg cpu tasks at the same time.

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

I received both CPU and a GPU Beta units on an i7-970 + GTX 460 1 GB system.

HCC was not selected, this is on a Beta only profile...

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

edit: DM you did the foot shoot with your HCC aborts. Quota 1.

laughing Yes, actually both feet. biggrin First, I never came back here to re-certify my machines as reliable after the software upgrade and then I aborted 170 HCC CPU wu's. However I knew that would happen and it is OK as having to run hundreds of HCC CPU wu's to get the occasional HCC GPU Beta is a show stopper for me. I'm am back at DNA World (CPU) and Einstein (GPU) until things sort out here. Cheers. coffee

peace

Maybe the wrong smiley and the second on the second row of the pick list applies], as I just received a Beta HCC but don't have HCC selected in my device profiles... eventually had to find out how things in reality connect, it's though that this is a CPU version of BETA HCC tongue

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

We are sending both cpu and gpu in this test. Like you said, we need to test credit as well as the app.

Thanks for that clarification. I've got one of these and was getting ready to ask why my GPU utilization has been at 0% after 20 min elapsed on the WU.

Looks like my CPU beta task will complete after around 70 min on my i7 920 @ 3.6.

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

This is a BETA test - therefore if you have selected to participate in BETA testing you will get the work. Selection of HCC1 has no impact.

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

The way that the work runs is that there is a cpu - only period at the start of the workunit then it runs the gpu part then there is a cpu only period at the end.

I would say that the GPU part runs the longest - but some of the more powerful cards are completing the GPU part in less time than the cpu part. For example, the first result back which is one of the new ATI cards had an elapsed time of 183 seconds - but 100 of those seconds was cpu time.

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

That's a little surprising to read, and surmise that the GPU option on the device profile does have to be selected? If not, these GPU tasks could land on the unsuspecting

Re: Lead time for GPU beta

Could be wrong (very likely) but I don't think the HCC project field needs to be checked, in this case 'Beta' should be the project setting it's coupled to.

Increasing the cache a bit and with a Beta only profile and the GPU opt-in box checked I get,

13/03/2012 11:42:13 AM World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
13/03/2012 11:42:13 AM World Community Grid Requesting new tasks for GPU
13/03/2012 11:42:14 AM World Community Grid Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
13/03/2012 11:42:14 AM World Community Grid Message from server: No tasks sent

There is usually a lag time between when they are announced and when they actualy hit the feeder...

This is a BETA test - therefore if you have selected to participate in BETA testing you will get the work. Selection of HCC1 has no impact.

Thanks for clearing that up...
