Good Saturday Morning Team Congratulations frans6nl! Saturday. Starting of Speedweek in Daytona IIRC I think that today is a good day to have the best day you can despite those things that might be obstructing you. I got too much pain medicine last night. A circumstance that normally makes me feel really bad. I suppose I got what might be considered a "high". I now understand better how people get hooked. I will cut it back more tonight..it is difficult to get right. Sorry about your friends in the Hospital Gerald. As Keith points out, you probably have something substantial if they keep you overnight at the hospital. They replaced my knee on Wednesday and I came home Friday. Hope Rej is OK. I always take as little pain medicine as possible. I really needed it though when I was working on a ladder back in October of 2010, and the ladder fell over and I landed on top of it. It really hurt and we went to the emergency room to have me checked out. Nothing was broken, but I needed the pain pills (that I kept to the minimum).

Oh wow, looks like I hit gold on GFAM yesterday. Gonna take it to ruby and then go for emerald on DSFL.

I now understand better how people get hooked. I will cut it back more tonight..it is difficult to get right. RT, some pain meds can be a bit addictive. If that's an issue, your doc should be able to switch you to something else. There's nothing wrong with taking something for pain. It doesn't make sense to sit there and suffer. The real trick is figuring out how the med works in your system. We're all different. The typical OTC med that's suppose to be good for 4-6 hours barely makes 4 hours with me. At 3.5, it's usually starting to wear off so I've learned to take more then so that the new dose is kicking in as the old dose is wearing off. I see how I'm doing in the morning when I get up and decide if I want to try going without the meds that day. Something similar will hopefully work for you. |

Good Morning MOT Congratulations darth_vader and wundrwuzzi!! On the pain medicine, I have always been one that avoided pain medicine like the plague. It causes a set of sensations that I really hate more than the pain. Now with this last thing, I started out with the same predisposition. The pain however has been intense and constant. I have come to the compromise that I want enough pain medicine to take the edge off of it but not enough to make it go away. It is that balance that is hard for me to achieve as I think there are too many variables. So sometimes I am in a lot of pain and others (like the above example) I went too far and had no pain but also was very uncomfortable with the side effects. Kind of like a bad driver on a slick road; constantly under or over compensating. Anyway, I am but 10 days from the surgery and hopefully the levels of all this will decrease more rapidly as time passes. Anyway, this is in hand and the things that worry me are two pregnancies of my daughter-in-law and one of my granddaughters (22 Year old). Nothing exceptionally risky but always a worry. And our friend Rej; wish we knew more. Everyone have a great Sunday. One of your friends in Texas. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Feb 19, 2012 4:33:12 PM] |

RT, it sounds like you are particularly sensitive to that painkiller. I'd recommend discussing that with your doctor. Different pain meds work differently and there may well be a different one that will control the pain without the bad side effects. Whenever my wife has had to have surgery, she always has had a bad problem with nausea for about the first 24 hours. Each time, we've brought that up with the anesthesiologist and the last time, they recommended an anti-nausea med usually given to folks during chemo. She still had the bad nausea for about 4-5 hours after waking but then it disappeared completely so I think we know the med to request for that and just have to work on the timing. There's no reason for you to have to put up with constant pain. That just makes it harder for you to keep up with your PT and such.
