On the company that did not pay their bill, luckily it was not a large bill and all I had in it was labor so I guess they need the money more than I do. Other cheek turned. RT, I know it's been tough times for a lot of folks and businesses but a person's word should still count for something. Glen Rose being the county seat, you don't have far to go to get to the courthouse (and an historic one no doubt). There should be some type of small claims court there. Those are normally very informal (no lawyers needed). You fill out something to "file your claim", you meet with a judge and both sides state their story and the judge rules. If the other side doesn't show, you win by default. It's not expensive and, even if you don't ever collect, they have your outstanding judgement against them and those sorts of things are usually not good for them at some point. It's the principle, you promised to do some work for them, they promised to pay you. Besides, I doubt you have any plans for ever doing any more work for them. ![]() |

Folks, it's gotten quiet in here again. That happens pretty regularly and I've learned it's a normal part of things here. However, being the start of the year when folks are making resolutions and such, I would ask one small favor of you. Take a moment and think back to when you were looking for a team to join. Seeing our team thread and the impression the posts in it gave you of our team was probably a big factor in your decision. That's going to be true for folks looking for a team these days too. Please consider making a commitment to yourself (we don't need to know here) to post to our thread periodically. Once or twice a week would be tremendous! Even once every couple of weeks would be a big help. It's not hard or difficult; after all, I can post here.
---------------------------------------- Don't worry about being misunderstood, even if English isn't your first language. I ain't the best at English either. A good while back, I was having to create a new thread at the end of each month. Folks were posting from all over the world and I REALLY loved the flavor it gave our thread. I would love to get back to that. Thanks! |

Good Morning MOT RT, I know it's been tough times for a lot of folks and businesses but a person's word should still count for something. ![]() These folks are in a different County (Denton) and the bill is small enough that it would cost me as much to force them to pay as I would get. Beyond that the "opportunity cost" (the amount that I would be forgoing to pursue it -- the work that I would miss) would make it a losing proposition even if they did pay; which is unlikely and a judgment won't buy any Twinkies. Cheaper just to write it off. I know, the principle of the thing is as you stated. We had a verbal and understood contract which they chose to break and in a frictionless world, they would have to be fair and pay.. but as a wise man once said "Life is not fair; but it is still good". You are correct; I will not be doing business with them any more in the highly unlikely event that they would have the gumption to ask. Besides now I can feel sanctimonious. Congratulations Masurg! Wooh.... dkt... that all sounds way too healthy for me; My son-in-law would throw a fit if he thought that I were going to live very much longer. Today is the 6th. Time is running out this week to have a good day; so do it! One of your friends in Texas ![]() |

keithhenry - not a member currently,
but I fully understand your plea to your members of posting periodically, and I decided to bring a bit of the international flavour you're looking for Godt Nytår - Happy New Year to MyOnlineTeam oh, BTW RT (hello) while living and trying to do business in Rhode Island I once filed in a small claims court in a Connecticut town - just in order to try how it worked and out of principle and the Sheriff got me the money owed ... |
