Maggi e-mailed us. This time she specifically asks for advice as to
avoid dehydration - if you have suggestions, please send them to her. Her e-mail address is: maggi@mbee.co.uk Maggi writes: Season's greetings, one and all. Thank you for your love, support and prayers at this difficult time, and I wish you all the very best of blessings for Christmas and the New Year. I am handling the current cycle reasonably well... a few bouts of vomiting and several hypos whilst I am tweaking my insulin doses, along with some rather severe bruising from the heparin jabs, but otherwise ok. I have to go into the hospital for bloods, another chemo session and the repeat angiogram on 27th and 28th, but apart from that am looking forward to putting my feet up for a few days. One of the biggest problems they have is getting the cannulas in, because I am dehydrated. There was some talk of putting in a line, which I am not keen on due to the risk of infection. I am drinking as much as I can, but it doesn't seem to help ... any tips or suggestions would be gratefully received. |

We have an e-mail from maggi.
Those of you who feel like e-mailing her whether you know her or not can do so using this address: maggi@mbee.co.uk Hope you are all back at work/life with renewed vigour following the Christmas break. Best wishes to all of you for the New Year... I pray that it brings happiness and good fortune to all of us. As you know, I had to travel to the hospital to have my bloods done on 27th, as our local Path Lab was closed for the holiday. I was back there again on 28th for my chemo session and the repeat angiogram. I got a bit of a shock though... seems my blood count did not recover as expected during my "week off" from the chemo, and I was severely anaemic, so had to go back in yet again on 28th for a blood transfusion. At least it made me feel good about all the pints I had donated over the years when I was able to do so. Things have at least improved since. The scan was all good... I was able to stop doing those ghastly injections. I spent Christmas day being violently sick, with recurrent bouts of vomiting over the next few days, but this has all now settled. I am at last eating regularly, and the dehydration situation is improving. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions... I found that ginger ale worked very well when mixed with advocaat ;) but my favourite home made soup worked best of all. I boiled up a huge gammon, set aside enough for two meals and chopped the rest back into the stock, then added sliced leeks, grated carrots and swede (ruterbager I think our 'merican cousins call it), and diced potatoes... couldn't get enough of it... making some more tomorrow. I expected to be skipping after they pumped me full of the red stuff, but no such luck... still dropping off in front of the tv etc... mind you, after years of sleep apnoea, it is rather nice to get several hours of undisturbed sleep every night :)) ...and I am able to stay awake in the daytime long enough to enjoy playing with my new car, which I got the week before Christmas. It is a Vauxhall Zafira, as before... I need the boot space for my wheelchair and my scooter... but a top of the range model this time, with little extras like cruise control, automatic headlights and wipers, and heated (leather) seats... fun!!! God bless. Mags xoxox |

We have news from maggi- please don't forget her but send her your e-mails, links, pictures, good advice .... - even if it may be a "cold call" for you - you can do it! maggi's e-mail: maggi@mbee.co.uk maggi writes: Hi all. My life has been a series of ups and downs since my last missive... some of the downs a bit too heavy! After my last cycle of chemo, I had some great news... my blood tests showed that the cancer markers were down, indicating that prayers/good wishes are working and the tumour is responding to treatment. However, I also had a recurrence of the cellulitis infection that plagues me from time to time, for which they prescribed a two week course of a mild antibiotic. On the following Saturday, the infection was so bad that I had to access the emergency oncology department 30 miles away, where they gave me an IV shot and sent me home with a stronger antibiotic. At my next chemo session, I was told that I needed another blood transfusion, which was carried out last Thursday. Like last time, I was exhausted afterwards, but the reaction was far more severe. Next day, the cellulitis was rampant, and I had a raging fever. I was dizzy and confused and had several falls. A dear friend came up on Saturday morning and contacted the emergency doctor, who faxed through a prescription for stronger antibiotics. However, things took a turn for the worse during the night and I had to go to A&E, where x-rays showed I had broken 4 metatarsals in my left foot. I was admitted so that IV antibiotics could be administered for 24 hours, along with some fluids and some gunk to stabilise my potassium levels. After all that, I was finally able to answer questions coherently again! My left leg is in plaster to the knee, my right foot black and painful, I have a lump on my head like an egg, and sickness and diarrhoea from the drugs... but at least the fever is under control and the cellulitis receding. Today's chemo session was cancelled, so I now have 2 weeks to recuperate before the next round. Mags xoxox |

We have an e-mail from maggilove
----------------------------------------- and it is full of snowdrops, crocuses and eranthis - please keep thinking of her, e-mailing, anything - "cold calls" are welcome, too ♥ - Maggi's e-mail address is waiting for your greetings Thank you on behalf of Maggi ♥ Hi all Many thanks for all the emails, calls, posts and e-cards. These are very much appreciated, always, even though I am not up to responding very often. I had some amazing news this week from my oncologist. First of all, my cancer markers are down yet again, to the point where they are almost normalised. Secondly... the CT scan showed the tumour has shrunk from 9 x 6.5 cm to 6.5 x 4.7 cm... almost a 50% reduction in size! At the start I was warned not to expect any shrinkage... the best they could hope for was to slow the growth a little... so this truly is a miracle. The cellulitis has not yet gone, so we decided I should skip chemo again this week, and take two different combined antibiotics to hopefully kick it into touch once and for all. My broken bones appear to be healing nicely. I cut off the back slab last night, as the air cast I ordered arrived yesterday. It was pure bliss to be able to have a long hot shower for the first time in nearly three weeks. Although it is quite bulky, the air cast is so much lighter and more comfortable than the plaster... and I won't have to worry about keeping it dry when I go out in the snow! Please keep the prayers coming... they are clearly working :)) God bless you all Mags xoxox [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 9, 2012 12:03:48 PM] |

Prayer worked for me and it is working for Maggi,
----------------------------------------so don't stop now. Prayer is like mental crunching, your brain probably has a lot of idle time (mine does), put some of your idle brain time to good use.
