Maggi is back with a new - not very encouraging - update:
Hi all After seven painful attempts, using both arms, they finally gave up trying to insert a PICC line this afternoon. They will now try to insert a central line in my chest. On the plus side, I should be able to swim with a central line, whereas I would not have been able to with a PICC line, though I would still have been able to use the pool to some extent. My blood count is also very low, which means a transfusion this week is inevitable - guess that is why I am so tired and breathless. God bless Mags xoxox I ask you kindly to support this brave woman who has the courage to tell how it goes it a rational way. Would you be able to do that? She's no less than amazing. Please e-mail her: maggi@mbee.co.uk |

The headline of Maggi's e-mail is: From bad to worse:
Hi again Got a phone call from the hospital this morning, asking me to come in a couple of hours earlier than scheduled because the oncologist needed to see me as a matter of urgency. He wanted to admit me for a week for IV antibiotics! Seems my white blood count has shot up alarmingly, and he said he was not happy to proceed with chemo when I clearly have a potentially life-threatening infection, though I have no symptoms. I declined to be hospitalised, and was sent home to start a course of oral antibiotics right away. I have to have a number of tests. Blood transfusion is scheduled for Friday, and chemo postponed for at least a week. Prayers etc needed urgently. God bless Mags xoxox Please do whatever you can, fellow crunchers, support Maggi any way you can, and crunch on .... |

A new beginning
is the headline Maggi chose for the e-mail she sent today. She writes: Hi all Many thanks for your emails, photos, writings etc., always appreciated. The blood transfusion was something of a nightmare. I was already black and blue from the nine attempts to extract blood for testing prior to transfusion, so I was feeling pretty fragile from the start. After five failed attempts to put in a cannula, the nurse solicited some assistance. Nurse number two managed to get the thing in, but it was so painful I screamed. After one and a half units, the cannula came adrift. Nurse number three tried to reinsert it in a fresh spot, thought it was in, but it leaked. Given the amount of pain I was experiencing, it was mutually agreed that further attempts would be too traumatic, so I just had the partial transfusion. Since then, things have been pretty quiet. The antibiotics appear to have worked, as the blood tests showed the white cell count had fallen. Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) they are going to try to put in a central line. Once the line is in, I will have my first cycle of the new chemo regime. I had the pre-chemo blood tests today and the extraction was fine - decent sample obtained painlessly at first attempt, for the first time in many months. Please pray that all is well with blood samples, that the procedure goes well tomorrow, and that I am able to tolerate the new (more toxic) chemo. God bless Mags xoxox As usual, Maggi would like very much to hear from you. Even if you don't know Maggi and have never written to her before, she would welcome your words, pictures, music, links, anything, please, fellow cruncher Maggi's e-mail is: maggi@mbee.co.uk |

maggi is back with a new message with the headline:
Oops ... Seems I spoke too soon. I just got a call from the hospital re the blood tests I had this afternoon... seems my white cell count has hit its highest level yet, and I have been ordered to present myself at A&E immediately for admittance to be properly assessed, as the infection is serious - life threatening, in fact. I am likely to be in hospital for at least a week, and there will be no line or much-needed chemo until this is sorted. Need all your prayers and good wishes urgently. Mags xoxox So, please in addition to your e-mails, please send Maggi your prayers and good wishes urgently. |
